...That Was Not Where I Thought This Was Going
So. Possibly my two favorite Reboot fics from the last few days of reading both feature creepy bad-touch!Nero. Possibly I have been stalking eneiryu's journal for more. Possibly I want twenty more stories on that theme right now.

we are who we were never supposed to be - Nero/Kirk, Kirk/Spock, Kirk/Bones, WiP. Winona's shuttle didn't get far.
Relatedly, I've been thinking about Reboot ships. I love Kirk bestest, so I don't partiularly care to read stories he's not in (I make an exception for Gaila fic, because she's awesome), but there are some pairings that I just...don't want to deal with, even as secondary pairings. The biggest one is Spock/Uhura, which, suck to be me. One, I have as much interest reading Spock with people who aren't Kirk as I did reading John with people who weren't Rodney (that is to say, zero). Two, instructor/student is a big obstacle for me. It's one of the biggest reasons I'll never really dig Harry/Snape as a pairing. It's a big enough problem that I won't even read AUs with those kind of shenanigans.
But apparently, I think Kirk/Uhura is awesome? I don't know, I was totally tricked. I'm not sure how, but the first story I read was all hot and playful and fulfilling each other's fantasies (Kirk in a dress! Uhura, commando, in trousers!) and now that version of them is burned into my brain.
Kirk/McCoy is honestly more a pairing of opportunity for me. There's a lot of it, some written by authors I love, and y'all seem to dig it, so why not? I'm not opposed; I'm just also not enthusiastic. Specific stories do totally sell me, though, it's just not translating to the bigger picture.
I'm kind of doomed to ship Kirk/Spock? It's the original OTP, guys. I pick up a lot through fannish osmosis, and this is apparently part of that. Also, ha, I totally figured out why Original Recipe never really clicked as one of my fandoms. A lot of those girls were All About Spock, while I am All About Kirk.
