There's This Thing I Do? With Lists?

So I've kind of stalled out on del.icio.us because really, tagging when I could be reading awesome shit? Whyfor?

(Sidebar: Bought Cry Wolf today and I am such a Patricia Briggs fangirl, y'all don't even know. After I lent Alyssa my copy of When Demons Walk, it got stolen. It was out of print, the cheapest used copy on Amazon was something like 80 bucks, and I thought about getting it anyway. When Demons Walk, the Hurog duology, and the Mercy Thompson books are all stupid-awesome and everyone should read them. And write me some Ward/Oreg. Because yes.)

Just like with the small fandoms list(s), the reccing is done, but the fannish love continues. Gorging myself on Pete/Patrick and Frank/Gerard. Although really, I go weak for Patrick/nearly anyone. He is my favorite. Gerard is my MCR favorite, but I am much less invested generally.

Read some awesome mpreg and then a deathfic and, because it is how I roll, I have the starts of two lists.

I'm thinking the kidfic one will The Kids Are Alright, even though the title doesn't set my world on fire, and the death list will either be my previously brainstormed title, 50 Dyings of the Light, or the current favorite, Rocks Fall; Everybody Dies.

Also, still have the group-sex list and the het list, although according to my poll, people want to see less gen more than anything, but less het second-most, which, really? Less gen? Why? And I don't really rec much of either. Hence the list. That was really kind of a theme, actually, people wanting less of fandoms/pairing types that I don't rec a whole lot to begin with.

I mean, I'm a slash girl, first and foremost, but I do kind of pride myself on my variety. I may rec an overwhelming percentage of slash/certain fandoms, but I do step outside my comfort zone. I've recced literally everything I can think of except truly consensual parent/child incest and I like doing that.

Because fandom is brilliant and amazing and you lose out on so much just sticking to your little comfortable corner, to your one fandom, to your OTP. Especially to your OTP. Doing that isn't wrong, I just.

You see such a breadth of characterisation when you open it up. A lot of people do tend to stick together with one pairing, so you get a fanon that affects the writing of a character, and if you hop pairings, you get to see the different fanons and the little shortcuts that people take/make. Like, if you're reading Harry/Hermione, there's going to be the problem of Ron and Ginny that may or may not be resolved with character bashing. A lot of Harry/Slytherin fic invlolves betrayal on the Light's side and a darker Harry than you see elsewhere. Pairing Xander with someone outside his culture/generation/species allows an author to sidestep a lot of the humor/pop culture as a defense thing. It's awesome. Because nothing's sexier than enthusiasm and nothing gets people enthusiatic like their version of my darlings. I want to fall in love with your woobie!underappreciated!Rodney and your badass!dom!Rodney and your trans!Rodney, your merman!Rodney, your professor!Rodney, your pregnant or robot or girl or gay or straight or damaged or loved or dying Rodney. I want to fall in love over and over again, and have it be a new love, because I went somewhere different.

So I run around the internet and try new things because I'm basically a ficslut. And honestly, I just love to share so much that I will seriously seize any opportunity to make someone a personalised recs list. But for something like my comm, where at this point the stats are 60 lists = me, 4 lists = everybody else ever, I'm pretty much falling into using it more as a reading list of awesome, so they can kind of just like it or do it themselves.

Anyway. There's still a Harry-centric list kind of percolating, but all the titles I come up with strike me as faintly-to-extremely horrible. Suggestions/comments welcome:
