Yeah, this is an incredibly random selection of stuff I've jotted down over the past couple months.
- I love my computer, so much, even if I don't have a home Internet connection. I missed it desperately.
- I've been reading a lot of books lately; I'm going to have to do a whole post. For now, just know that Jim Butcher's latest rocked slightly less than expected, but still more than humanly possible (especially the end, OMG! also, the Thing with Isana, totally called it last book!), and that Revenge Gifts by Cindy Cruciger is awesome and I really hope there's a sequel.
- OMGWTF with the return to radio of the schmaltziest country song ever (those are my kids, that's my wife, who's that man, running my life?).
- Awesome movies? Beerfest (from the guys who made Super Troopers), Imagine Me & You (Piper Perabo's character likes a girl? I'm shocked!), The Last Casino (Canadian card-counting movie featuring Ginger from Ginger Snaps!), Stick It (too much rock for one hand!), and Center Stage (I just watched the end for the millionth time and it is still wonderful).
- God, I missed steak. So much. I love beef. I love having a kitchen again. I love being able to eat what I want, when I want. I'm totally going to gain back at least half the weight I lost and dude, so do not even care. Because mmmmm, food.
- I am still slightly gleeful that I taught people Spoons, because it is the best card game ever and in fact, it's one of the things I miss about high school, how the long lunches during finals week always turned into Spoons tournaments so rowdy that we once broke a table.
- So, my glasses snapped in half. The frames were only the second pair I ever got and thus were six years old and due to give up the ghost, but still. I loved them and I don't like the new ones half so well. They are both less flattering and less comfortable. They were, however, free, so I can't complain too much. Oh! And my prescription went up another notch, but that's in three years, so it looks like I can stop worrying that my declining vision heralds inevitable and imminent blindness.
For shits and giggles, I asked them what my vision was and hey, turns out that it's worse than 20/400. Why so vague? That's as far as the charts go. Yeah. My vision is, literally, off-the charts bad. Eight years ago, I had 20/20! Stupid genetics. My first cousin's legally blind in one eye, though, so it could have been worse.
- I missed watching How I Met Your Mother. But now I get to watch it again! And it's still good! I'm also liking The Class.
Heroes, of course, is my beloved, but it is gone from me until Jan. 22, because life hates me like that. And after that dream! Bastards.
- I am experiencing a resurgence of love for my music. Especially Janis Joplin, Garbage, Metric, and the Kaiser Chiefs. My favorite songs right now are the Rollerskate Song, Metal Heart, Calculation Theme, and Caroline, Yes. Y'all should check them out.
- The use of signs as mood indicators should be more socially acceptable. Because then I could have actually spent my day sporting the OMG, FUCK OFF sign of my dreams.
- You know what is really beginning to chap my ass? Being the reasonable one. I am not built to be level-headed and conciliatory and compromising! I'm short-tempered and really very fond of getting my own way!
In conclusion: I shouldn't live with people.
- Veracity's a word that doesn't get enough play.
- How awesome is it that I bet you at least half of my flist knows what trepanning is from either a) The Golden Compass or b) that episode of SG-1? Rock awesome, I tell you.
- Know what I kind of want to see? Fempreg. You know, an f/f pregnancy. Ooh, and more het mpreg.
Also, it strikes me that I've read maybe a dozen stories with female pregnancy and probably five times that in mpreg. And the het preg never seems to focus on the pregnancy as the mpreg does.
- OMG, WHAT. OC HOOKER AU? HOW IS LIFE SO BEAUTIFUL.
- I need to read Tony/McGee/Marylin!Abby from the Halloween ep. Need. Also, I've been willing to buy Tony/Ziva more and more lately. Especially after that last ep, when she was all worried about his health. Mmmm, a Tony/Ziva novel with undercover work, exotic locales, Gibbs Issues, and more hurt/comfort than you can shake a stick at.
I want recs. Mostly because that Harry/Hermione kick was scarring and I now have an unholy fear of reading random unrecced het. But I'll probably take the leap fairly soon. God help me.
- JKR has too many characters with the initials PP. Peter Pettigrew, Pansy Parkinson, Padma and Parvati Patil... It can get really freaking confusing when pairings are listed by initial, is all.
- If I used Bite of Your Kiss for an HP vampire story, I could never look myself in the face again. It's just too easy. On the other hand, if I ever make a vampire lists, TOTALLY what I'm calling it.
- I've mentioned before how I love the crossover pairings, yes? Well, for years, I've been all "Hermione/Willow! Crossover OTP!". Because Willow! She likes girls! Hermione! She likes redheads! They're both geeks! Both witches without a family history of magic! Basically, OTP of Brainy Magic.
Now, though. I keep thinking about all these different BtVS/HP pairings. Like, Dawn/Hermione. Both brunette geeks often overshadowed by their "Chosen" companions. Also, Hermione would be fascinated by Dawn-the-Key, which could be good or bad. And I could maybe go for Willow/Ginny - redheaded witches who've touched darkness and now have hot sex.
And I've seen a lot of Buffy/Harry, but no. Bad idea. They'd just reinforce each other's "saving people" things and it'd just be this big mess of sex and Chosen One rage/angst.
Buffy/Ron, though... Look, Buffy needs someone who can think strategically once in a while and frankly, she seems to enjoy emotionally stunted men.
And finally, Dru/Luna. Shut up, wins! You know they'd understand each other perfectly. It'd be awesome.
- PG Wodehouse is my new beloved.
I, um. Kind of want to see Bertie Wooster, Hufflepuff's own Neville Longbottom.
Oh, the Hogwarts house system. It's fun to sort random out-canon characters.
Hufflepuff nets Bertram Wooster, Simon Tam, Zoe Washburne, Carson Beckett, George O'Malley, Xander Harris, Tara Maclay, Luke Daines, Dan Rydell, and Bianca Montgomery. Ravenclaw catches Willow Rosenberg, Elizabeth Weir, Daniel Jackson, Rory Gilmore, Paris Gellar, Jeremy Goodwin, River Tam, Temperance Brennan, Gil Grissom, and Spencer Reid.
Slytherin nabs Jeeves, Miles Vorkosigan, Addison Shepherd, Alec (aka, X5-494), Lilah Morgan, CJ Cregg, and Kendall Hart. Gryffindor claims Dahlia Travers, Izzie Stevens, Lorelai Gilmore, Ronon Dex, Mal Reynolds, Buffy Summers, and Leroy Jethro Gibbs.
- Why do I fail so hard at resisting badfic? I can look at a summary and know no good can come of it and still be irresistibly attracted. I am like a moth, except dumber, because at least a moth only immolates itself once. But. How do you say no to Love is the most powerful force on this earth. It seems Dumbledore’s constant nagging has finally gotten through- Voldemorts decided to test it. Forced into a relationship he knows it wrong Harry must fight Voldemort, Death Eaters and his own traitorous emotions for, as Voldemort cruelly points out, how can someone be expected to kill the only man they’ve ever loved??
God. I lose at life.
- I am sick. God, how can I find this stuff simultaneously so horrible and so hilarious? A story where Harry's a cutter! And not human! And the child of Dumbledore! And has a heart condition! Possibly, there's other stuff, I just read the end 'cause I saw it recced but the summary left me skeptical. Oh! I forgot to mention the thing where Malfoys traditionally abjure their emotions when trading their souls to a demon for wealth and power. Also, there's the thing where even skimming the sex scene left me wanting to talk about Harry's man-flower. Or possibly his manginity. Though I'm not sure either fully conveys the wretchedness. Especially when you consider that Draco later talks about Harry being his best lay ever and how he kept almost passing out from the awesome.
Oh, HP fandom. You never fail to entertain.
- Snape with functioning tear ducts makes my brain hurt. It's the second chapter and he's cried three? four times?
- "Malfoy looks like he's hiding a big secret. . .the secret of his sexuality, Harry mused silently, biting the tip of his quill thoughtfully."
I feel like I will never stop laughing.
Also, quit it with Harry's eyes of "emerald fire", unless you actually let him use them to set things aflame.
- What the fucking fuck, Harry/Crabbe? I. What the shit.
- I have no clue why, but I am craving Harry/Weasley fic like mad. Seriously, Harry/any of the younger Weasleys.
I...don't know if I've mentioned my growing fear that Harry is becoming one of those characters I'll read with anyone? Think for a moment, of what HP fandom is like, and you'll see why this is a horrifying thought. I have read so many things these last few months. Wrong, wrong things. Like the Harry/Crabbe and the Harry/Tonks/Bellatrix. And those whole Harry/Voldemort and Harry/Lucius kicks. I used to have limits! Standards! No more! Now my brain is all scarrified from the cross-gen BDSM and the pony play and the time-traveling pseudo-incest. Why? Why do I do this to myself?
- So, I've been on a bit of a Trio kick and I just read one that started H/R with jealous Hermione and several H/Hr with jealous Ron. And now I want to read about the Horcrux hunt where Harry realizes that he love-loves Hermione and Ron and after some angst, he goes off alone to do something stupid and heroic, because if he dies it doesn't matter because they have each other and then he lives and has to deal with his pissed-off friends and then, OT3. It's got to be out there!
- Dude, this is awesome. Especially as I've been longing for werewolf!Harry ever since corvidae9 posted Days Go By.
ETA:You know, "Wolf" is not exactly my cup of tea. In it...Harry's kind of a whore. And it seems all kinds of wrong to say that, as he in fact starts out the story literally whoring himself (for drugs, yo), but then you read the whole story/series and he (consensually) fucks Draco, Snape, Colin, Borgin, a Hufflepuff OMC, Ron, and Lucius, tries to fuck Remus, and develops a whole plot that hinges on his playing Voldemort's sex slave (predictably leading to depraved Death Eater gangbangs).
- God, sometimes I hate myself. I look at some of the things I read and know I should be filled with SHAME, but no, there is only GLEE here. Like, yesterday? I read teenage Faith/Xander complete with pregnancy scare and found it AWESOME. I am the absolute BIGGEST whore for creature!fic. Not just the normal stuff, but the weird shit with tentacles and wings and prehensile tongues. It is amazing how very much I am not kidding. I just. Fandom's awesome, y'all, so much so that it is impossible for me to articulate.
- So, in an escalation of the ongoing madness that is me and list50, I have sworn to bring my numbers up to 1000 stories before January 1. Which means finishing a full list in about two weeks. Yeeeah. If I do it, it'll have been more than 1000 stories, in more than 100 fandoms, in ten months, though, which I think deserves a pony. Or some similarly extravagant prize of awesomeness. Just saying. Plus, I want to have posted 25 lists by March. We'll see how it goes.
- I love the end of December/the beginning of January. Yuletide and 3 Ships and all the rest! Also, hey, I'm totally doing a list of gift-exchange fics from this year, so y'all should tell me your favorite holiday comms.
