Residential broadband internet service, even at the best of providers on the best of nodes, in the best weather, is still at this point in time understandably inconsistent. to me, the concept of using the internet as your sole form of phone-based communication is foolhardy.
Never more was this more obvious than a call I took today. This guy's calling here from a pay phone, about his modem. His modem is online. He can't figure out how to reset his stuff(he was talking about having removed coax cables, which in this sort of a situation is overkill and possibly going to make it worse), and said he got hung up on repeated times.
Well, let's see.
- You aren't near the modem.
- You can't be near the modem, because you have internet phone only.
- The modem is connected, which means unless we can specify an issue, techs aren't going to respond to a scheduled appointment.
- We can't specify if we can't have you check the modem and the computer from your end.
- You were a jerk to me, so I can probably assume you were a jerk to everyone else you talked to. I wonder why you got hung up on?
In short, screwed.
You can get mad at us because you don't plan well, but don't expect us to dig you out of the hole you dug, especially if you're going to be an ass about it.
This is not to say I was anything other than helpful for the entire duration of that call. :)
