twelve | so not down with this sickness

[ On this ridiculous holiday, a boy and his baseball bat can be found in one (or more) of the following scenarios:

a)  in school wondering why he's being forced to cut out these stupid paper hearts. Do they honestly expect him to do this all day and then pass this stuff around? He's so ready to ditch school altogether. He may try to seek refuge at ( Read more... )

[Looking under the desk]

What are you doing?

[At the sound of the voice, Slugger's shoulders rise as if he's been startled. Unusual considering Ai is the least likely person to cause such a reaction. Turning to her, he raises a finger to his lips, waits a moment to see if anyone heard, ...then answers in a particularly quiet voice:]

Hiding.

[Comes in and sits next to him. Opps, just brushed your foot there.]

Why?

[He scoots over, quickly finding a lack of space to move around in. It's kind of tight under here, after all, and it's putting the two of them shoulder-to-shoulder. The teacher apparently hasn't noticed them missing yet--probably too busy supervising drone children in their Valentine-making skills.]

Out there... the stuff. [He swallows, dry-mouthed and suddenly very aware of Ai's proximity. For now he'll brush it off as having too little oxygen.]

It's annoying.

[Ai's looking out. Not seeming to notice just yet.]

You don't like the crafts?

[Shaking his head. It's more along the lines of he doesn't care for the meaning behind the crafts and he hates being expected to go along with everything the humans are doing.]

They mean nothing to me.

[She nods then just leans back against the desk.]

Why don't you leave?

[Slugger glances at her but quickly redirects his gaze to some wooden panel beneath the desk.]

It's everywhere. [Nowhere is safe. And he's afraid of being droned if he ditches, though he is seriously considering it anyway.] ...I might.

[Ai glances over but then quickly looks down at her feet.]

We could find somewhere else to go?

[Yeah she's coming too.]

[It sounds like a plan. He nods, eventually, and presses an ear to the inside of the desk hoping to determine whereabout the teacher is in relation to their hiding place. It's a fruitless effort done mostly just to distract himself for a moment.]

Meet you in the hall. [Since it's slightly easier for her to escape than it is for him.]

[She just holds out her hand.]

-??

[Confused, Slugger nearly shies away. Does... she want to hold hands? An instant sense of humiliation at his own stupidity sets in as he realizes she must be capable of porting them both out of here with her powers and that's why she's offering her hand. He's just going to try and forget that he ever came to the first conclusion at all.

Face obscured under the bill of his cap, he takes Ai's hand.]

[She looks at him as he does that but then he takes her hand. For some reason that makes her face feel warm. However she ignores that as she teleports them out of the classroom and outside, to the side of the school.

Yeah, they're still holding hands when they appear there.]

[Changing locations, even dimensions, in the space of a nanosecond is nothing new to him -- it was something he was once capable of doing himself. No, what strikes Slugger as positively unnatural is this sensation he's receiving from the linking of his hand with Ai's. What's more alarming is his inability (read: lack of desire) to pull away. It would frighten him if he weren't feeling so strangely light of heart.

So, for a long and awkward moment, he peers at Ai sidelong waiting for her to let go...]

[It will be a bit of a long awkward moment because Ai doesn't seem to want to let go either. However after said long awkward moment, she pulls her hand away, with a light blush as she decides that window over there is quite fascinating and why don't I stare at it now....]

[Once his hand is free, he scrubs the back of it against his brow and forehead to find the skin warm and damp with sweat. One might say he's running a feverish temperature.

While Ai stares off 100 yards into the distance, Slugger fixates on his feet and waits for the feeling of his organs rearranging themselves to finally stop. Then, for reasons beyond all comprehension, he reaches toward Ai and pinches the back of her arm.]
