I had a really fucking bad day today. It sort of started last night (the 10th) when I was trying to finish up my perfect play through of the Mass Effect series to find myself locked out of some critical dialogue. I ended up playing again through several things I had done before to see if what I missed was in one of those places, but it turns out ( Read more... )

sad, me

Hi, I hope you don't mind me intruding into this like this but I saw this on my friends page. However, I got to say something.

Out of experience with teeth problems (I've had a crown crack on me), you have better be taking an antibiotic for that infection. If you're not, demand it especially if you want to wait 2 weeks. The mouth is a easy way for bacteria to not only get inside the body but actually get into the bloodstream which is the worse complication for a something like this. You will have more problems then just a cracked tooth/tooth removal. Just think, wherever the blood goes that bacteria will go and that can mean the brain, heart, lungs, etc. I doubt you want something like that growing somewhere else than in your mouth.

Also, try looking into options of getting a fake tooth implanted and other things. It might not be the best thing to think of but its best to always be prepared for the worst outcome so that you have something there to hold you up. Talk to your doctor about your concerns or even the nurse, they are better at giving this type of information than I am and might have some better prepared answers for you and options that you can do. They might even be able to tell which is covered by insurance.

If your doctor doesn't know or doesn't tell you anything, go to a different doctor. It might also be best to get a second option by someone else.

Hope that helps and good luck

Thank you for the input! We're on each other's friends lists, so comment as much as you want! :)

An antibiotic and an antibacterial mouthwash is the treatment the dentist gave me for the next two weeks before the next appointment. I glossed over that part because when writing this entry, I was (and still am a bit, just not as much) depressed over the whole thing.

My mom really wants a second opinion from her regular dentist, but if it truly is a cracked tooth, then having a second opinion would just be paying money for what we already know. Especially since it was so hard to tell from the x-rays taken and the tests given will probably be the same ones that were given this time around.

My mom definitely wants me to get a fake tooth or bridge, but even with that put in, it still hurts my self-esteem very much to be loosing a tooth at my age. I already have major self-esteem issues and this certainly doesn't help matters much more.

I appreciate the thoughts and encouragement. It's very easy to loose sight when something bad happens.

Well getting a second option is a good idea since not all doctors think the same. For example: my dad got a cracked tooth (and a chunk of it came off) and he simply got a crown over it. So you never know.

Also, don't feel bad that you got a cracked tooth. It can happen very easily. Like when eating a nut or something hard. Anything can crack it. It doesn't matter how much you clean the tooth, it can still happen. That's what happened to both my dad and I.

My friend actually got one of those fake teeth implanted. She lost a tooth because apparently it got infected and the roots all died. But when she got it, the tooth looked blended in with the rest of the teeth. They take a color from the surrounding teeth and match it so that it looks completely normal.

I'll consider a second opinion then. I'd hate to spend the money just to get the same verdict, but you make a very valid point about dentists having different opinions.

Yes, I realize that now. It seems very downing at the time, but my outlook is much better after a good cry, lots of sleep, and writing it all out.

I really appreciate you talking to me about it. It's really helped me sort it out. /hugs

No problem. Hope everything goes well on your side regardless of the outcome. With today's technology, its easy to fix or cover up things. Also, if you were to get a fake tooth, the only person that should know about it is your family, the dentist, and anyone you told. Anyone else shouldn't be able to even see it. Its your mouth, who goes looking into it?
