Hugo Weaving a web in my mind

Well, im not back, but I found a little internet room in the hotel.

I guess Mike doesnt have to update this then.

I wrote a journal entry yesterday, very down, but apparently it didnt get through. Oh well, I guess its for the best. Said lots of things I should just keep packed up in the back of my mind.

Porto Alegre is the drabbest city in the whole world. Thats a very ironic fact, if you consider its name.

Wow, apparently Christopher Tolkien disowned his son for supporting the films. How.....drastic.

Persoanlly I think the Lord of The Rings is too complex a book to be transposed perfectly onto film, but I think they did a pretty good job at it. I wouldnt have made some of the changes in the plot that Peter Jackson made, I would have shortened it some other way. Like, I wouldnt have changed the way they met Merry and Pippin. They never really explain _why_ Merry and Pippin go with him, and they seem to accept the fact that Frodo is being chased by mounted wraiths very matter-of-factly. In the book they knew about it previous to going out on the quest, and still they were surprised to meet the riders.

At least they chose Pippin as the comic relief, since apparently they had to have some, since he never had any great significance in the book, and was never truly developed as a character. Merry actually had some pretty smart moments, and good mini-speeches.

And im ok with Arwen going out to search for the party, as opposed to Glorfindel. They needed a young female, I guess. Oh well, its Hollywood. Itd been worse if they had just made someone up. Liv Tyler made a pretty good elf.

Elrond was cool. He was cool in The Matrix and he was cool now. Portrayed as kind of evil and cold though, he was a nicer person in the text.
