Hardcore is a game type modifier that removes almost all of your HUD, turns on friendly fire, and ups the damage to where a pistol shot from a mile away will kill outright. Because you die so quickly in Hardcore, the game is slower and painfully quiet. It practically needs to be played with a headset to here the direction of sounds because you won't have a mini map to even tell you where your friendlies are, let alone enemies.
Because games are slower (at worst, campy), people tend to cover their blindspots with claymores, leading to plenty of equipment destructions for Sitrep Pro (120 of them).
I got into Skidrow which obviously meant no one was gonna use claymores. It's way too cramped to even set one down. Then I come face to face with a riot shield user; and he kills me in one shield bash because it's Hardcore. Normally it takes two, but one? Plus he has a shield!?
Too bad I always carry a riot shield class for emergencies. Suddenly the tense dread of not knowing where your enemies are becomes, "LOL. MY SHIELD BLOCKS UR BOOLETS WHILE I KILL YOU IN 1 HIT! HUUUUURRRRR."
