Staying in

I used to be something of a winter person - I looked forward to dark evenings, sat at home all warm and cosy on the sofa, eating stodgy food and watching TV. Now I've grown to loathe it. I crave sunlight, above all, feel guilty if I spend too long sat on my backside and am under doctor's orders to eat less rubbish. If anyone has any brilliant ( Read more... )

This triggered a weird empathic pain response. Ow! Hope it's starting feel better I've cvnted my hand up by falling it a few times and it's bloody awful.

If you're under doctor's orders to eat less rubbish, the States may not be the destination that he or she would prescribe...

Bloody awful luck about your hand, though. Perhaps you could combine regimes by sprinkling ground-up painkillers on food instead of salt?

California is okay for food - probably better than here, really.

Hand is fine now, but may take your tip up anyway with cold and flu tablets.

Yeah, pretty much. During my time in California, both north and south, the food available seemed pretty reasonable. Portions not too big, ingredients fresh. The climate is fairly Mediterranean, so that helps. I mean, you *can* buy lardtastic stuff if you want, but it doesn't seem to be the only thing on the menu.

I must defer gracefully to your superior knowledge of Orlando the Marmalade Cat. It is in no way sour grapes to say that I can quite see why you are so familiar with his oeuvre when, according to that Wikipedia link, it features such titles as Orlando's Country Peepshow, The Frisky Housewife and indeed Orlando's Invisible Pyjamas.
