Bah.
In other news, I saw Hannibal Rising for New Year's Eve. It was surprising good. I mean, I was expecting to like it. Just not as much as I did. It was very well put together - the actors, script, action and pacing were all excellent. (I also saw He Died With a Felafel In His Hand which was great in a completely different kind of way.)
The Hannibal Lecter backstory/psyche had parallels with that of Dexter Morgan - horrific childhood incident creating a monster, attachment to siblings, getting into medical school, some combative training by mentor type figures, very protective of a few individuals... Of course they differ a lot too. Dexter's murderous urges were not initiated by a desire for vengeance (or if they were, it was sublimated a lot, as is possible with Hannibal's urges not pushed to the breaking point by vengeance). Dexter kills those who deserve it - those who kill, generally multiple people. And Hannibal's kills seem to start that way - but he also kills a lot of people he just finds irritating after this movie.
I sort of want to see fic with them now. I'm not sure that they'd get along, but would probably find each other interesting. Dexter has enough psychological issues to keep a psychiatrist busy even if he is the only patient. And Dexter would probably muse about the whole eating people thing and where that came from.
Maybe they could meet as prisoners and have cells next to each other. Their conversations would probably have some mindfuckery, since that's what older!Lecter and Dexter do when they don't feel a need to cover up their evil side. But they might not try to kill each when outside of their cells because there aren't a lot of decent conversationalists in prison.
Alternatively, kid!Dexter could be sent to Hannibal Lecter for psychiatric evaluation (before he's caught). Or adult Dexter could go see him to see if he's a killer, and then end up working out some issues like in "Shrink Wrap". They'd probably still have some sort of badass showdown though. Maybe if Deb was sent for evaluation by the police department, Dexter and Hannibal could meet by chance and just sort of eye each other. And then even if Dexter suspected him he'd probably leave it unless he though Deb was in danger. Yes. Someone has to have written this already. I like it even better than the idea of Dexter and Sylar meeting.
