This month I've been collecting quotes from various media I've absorbed. I've decided to try and do this every month. It's mostly stuff that I've heard/read for the first time, but some it (ie. Firefly) is from rewatches.
Note: The Dark Knight is getting its own quote post. This is both because there's a lot of them and to avoid spoiling people who don't want to be spoiled.
"What the fuck have you done lately?" -- Wesley (Wanted movie)
"Wow, sarcasm. That's original. -- Dr. Horrible (Dr. Horrible's Sing-Along Blog)
"It's a brand new day,
And the sun is high,
All the birds are singing,
That you're gonna die." -- Dr. Horrible (Dr. Horrible's Sing-Along Blog)
"Sure, I can be stupid and short-sighted, and maybe a little selfish. But you are kind of a jerk, with a Napoleon complex and entitlement issues. Who the hell would put up with either of us?" -- Fox to Collin (Friendly Hostility)
"Everyone’s a hero in their own way.
Everyone’s got villains they must face.
They’re not as cool as mine,
But, folks, you know it’s fine
To know your place.
Everyone’s a hero in their own way
In their own not-that heroic way." -- Captain Hammer (Dr. Horrible's Sing-Along Blog)
"But, you know. Everything happens."
"Don't say for a reason."
"No, I'm just saying that - everything happens." Penny and Billy/Dr. Horrible
"I don't want to survive! I want to live!" -- the Captain (Wall-e)
"I make your this and that all dirty and wet, I do those kinds of things to you, then I thrust this and that into you" - Akihiko Usami, explaining why he thinks he and Misaki are going out (Junjo Romantica anime)
*Misaki cooks mini weiners*
Usami: "Make them octopus weiners."
Misaki: "Huh? Aren't you in the middle of a meeting?"
"They said on tv that most families cut their weiners into octopi."
"I'm pretty sure they were talking about families with kids in elementary school or younger."
"Will I live out my life never eating a non-marine octopus?"
"Fine! Here you go! Octopi!"
-- Junjo Romantica again. I'm not even sure why I like this show.
"Good evening, and sorry for the intrusion. I'm not anybody suspicious." -- Isaka AKA the most suspicious guy ever. Junjo Romantica. Damnit.
"It's not your fault that you wanna fuck your tv brother!/
I know if we met, I could turn you straight!/
All I need is a single date!"
-- "The Jensen Ackles Stalker Song"
"I accept chaos. I don't know whether it accepts me." -- Arthur Rimbaud (Ben Whishaw as one of Bob Dylan's personas in I'm Not There)
"Seven simple rules of going into hiding: one, never trust a cop in a raincoat. Two, beware of enthusiasm and of love, both are temporary and quick to sway. Three, if asked if you care about the world's problems, look deep into the eyes of he who asks, he will never ask you again. Four, never give your real name. Five, if ever asked to look at yourself, dont. Six, never do anything the person standing in front of you cannot understand. And finally seven, never create anything, it will be misinterpreted, it will chain you and follow you for the rest of your life. " -- Arthur Rimbaud (I'm Not There)
"All they want from me is finger-pointin' songs. I only got ten fingers." -- Jack Collins (Christian Bale as yet another representation in I'm Not There)
Jude: Doesn't really matter, you know, what kind of nasty names people invent for the music. But, uh, folk music is just a word, you know, that I can't use anymore. What I'm talking about is traditional music, right, which is to say it's mathematical music, it's based on hexagons. But all these songs about, you know, roses growing out of people's brains and lovers who are really geese and swans are turning into angels - I mean, you know, they're not going to die. They're not folk music songs. They're political songs. They're already dead. You'd think that these traditional music people would - would gather that mystery, you know, is a traditional fact, you know, seeing as they're all so full of mystery.
Keenan Jones: And contradictions.
Jude: Yeah, contradictions.
Keenan Jones: And chaos.
Jude: Yes, it's chaos, clocks, and watermelons - you know, it's - it's everything. These people actually think I have some kind of, uh... fantastic imagination. It gets very, uh, lonesome. But traditional music is just, uh... it's too unreal to die. It doesn't need to be protected. You know, I mean, in that music is the only true valid death you can feel today, you know, off a record player. But like everything else in great demand, people try to own it. Has to do with, like, uh, the purity thing. I think its meaninglessness is holy. Everybody knows I'm not a folk singer.
-- Jude is played by Cate Blanchett, the best Bob Dylan in I'm Not There
"The words will knock about in her head
horny bitch
slut-harlot-tease
loose woman
some people cannot handle a woman on the loose
you know those women in silk-ties and pin-striped shirts
women in blood-red stilettos and short pink skirts
-these women make New York City the most interesting place
and while we're on the subject of diversity
Asia is not one big race
and there is no such country called the Islands
and no - I am not from there" -- Staceyann Chin, "CrossFire"
"I am never one thing or the other-
at night I am everything I fear
tears and sorrows
black windows and muffled screams
in the morning I am all I want to be
wild rain and open laughter
bare footprints and invisible seams
always without breath or definition-I claim every dawn
for yesterday is simply what I was
and tomorrow
even that will be gone" -- Staceyann Chin, "CrossFire"
Wash: Little River gets more colorful by the moment. What'll she do next?
Zoe: Either blow us all up or rub soup in our hair. It's a toss-up.
Wash: I hope she does the soup thing, it's always a hoot and we don't all die from it.
-- Firefly, episode "Objects in Space"
"You're out of your mind."
"That's between me and my mind." -- Simon and Early, Firefly, episode "Objects in Space"
"They make psychiatrists get psychoanalyzed before they can get certified, but they don't make a surgeon get cut on. That seem right to you?" -- Early
"You know, with the exception of one deadly and unpredictable midget, this girl is the smallest cargo I've ever had to transport, yet by far the most troublesome. Does that seem right to you?"
"What'd he do?"
"Who?"
"The midget."
"Arson. The little man loved fire." -- Early and Simon
"She understands; she doesn't comprehend." -- River
"Few people really think about dying... paranoids worry about it without really understanding it. Victims of fatal accidents and murder don't have time to think. You only really think about it if you take the time to. And you only take the time if you know it's going to happen." -- John Constantine, Hellblazer - "Dangerous Habits"
"I'm the one who steps from the shadows, all trenchcoat and cigarette and arrogance, ready to deal with the madness. Oh, I've got it all sewn up. I can save you. If it takes the last drop of your blood, I'll drive your demons away. I'll kick them in the bollocks and spit on them when they're down and then I'll be gone back into darkness, leaving only a nod and a wink and a wisecrack. I walk my path alone... who would walk with me?" -- John Constantine, Hellblazer - "Dangerous Habits"
"There is more evil in your life than good, Constantine. Much more."
"Oh, I see. There's some twat sitting somewhere with a pair of scales, is there? Measuring up good and evil in ounces? That's your problem, mate. The whole bloody lot of you just wander about like a pack of wankers, seeing things in black and white. You were right that you'll never understand us, okay -- and I'll tell you something else... You're the sodding problem, not us. You're the ones that make the frigging rules for us, and you don't even understand us! NO WONDER WE'RE SO SCREWED UP!!" -- The Archangel Gabriel and John Constantine, Hellblazer - "Dangerous Habits"
