I found that David Tennant brought so much more humour to the role than Chistopher Eccleston. He didn't make it a must-see for me, though I did watch on and off. But there was always something about the revolving role of the females that bugged me about the show. I guess the modern version has done a better job of making that feasible though.
The only place I've published my Ten/Donna fic is at FF.net and the one I mention is the last I wrote, it's called "Impossible Things" (http://www.fanfiction.net/s/5006545/1/Impossible_Things) though I hesitate to recommend it as I haven't read it in ages and don't know if I still approve of it. Let me know if it holds up....
As for Simon, he is basically a child. Sometimes he treats Susan like a mother. But there is the basis for a good romantic relationship within that dynamic, despite her freak when he tries it. Because there's intimacy there and honesty. And she gets that this is who he is. I never minded his idiocy too much, I just thought it was one of the funnest shows ever when I discovered it. I'm almost envious of you watching these shows for the first time because I have seen them over and over and still love them.
Enjoy "Moving Wallpaper" too. On that, I saw similarities between Jack and Liz in the couple I shipped, Jonathan and Sam. There's even one episode where the BOSS decides to sit in one the WRITERS during their creative process. Sound familiar???
I always forget Matt Smith is in "Party Animals", I should watch that thing properly one of these days...Are you enjoying it?
Oh, I agree, it is still worth a watch, that kind of storytelling, and "Downton" does it WELL as it does everything it does well. But I'm not GLUED to it, is all.

I agree, but I did adore Eccleston's goofiness and alien-ness, and how he played Nine's weariness/survivor's guilt. Tennant's Doctor is the most human I've seen so far, and I think that, among other things, is what made him so popular.
Yeah, I don't understand why it has always has to be girls either. But for the most part, I love the way the companions are written so I don't mind it too much.
For the record, Mindy, "Impossible Things" is one of the most beautiful Ten/Donna fics I've ever read. Your fics always make me emotional, I swear. My heart is like putty in your hands. And it is so weird that you mentioned Monte Carlo in your fic, because now Catherine's in a movie called Monte Carlo. Plus, you thought of River as a companion's descendant. You are a soothsayer, you are.
I do like their moments together and they definitely have chemistry. We'll see what happens. :) Really can't say much about the shows because I'm catching up on Breaking Bad right now. I'll probably watch Party Animals next week though. I'll let you know what I think of it.
Tennant is just CHARISMATIC wit a capital CH! He's just a born entertainer. He has such charm but also knows when to be real which is the basic job of any actor. s you say, to be human.
I like that they've mixed it up by adding some boys here and there but what I mean is that the show started in the sexist 70s or whatever and I used to watch it as a kid in the 80s and what bothered me about the original set-up later was the idea that women were interchanaglble or replaceable. One was as good as the next. Ek.
Oh thanku! I was never really that sure about that fic...but I'm glad it holds up well. Cos I found the Donna conclusion pretty unsatisfying and distressing. So mostly my writing was about bringing closure to that for myself. If it resonates with others, that's even better.
I am a Soothsayer. I walk around in red robes all day with weird patterns painted on my face. (But I do have a weird ability to tap into particular fandoms cos I've predicted so many things on "30 Rock", just little lines or whatever that I later saw and went: "I already wrote that!")
