I'm excited about the Tina casting news that's been making the rounds recently. According to
TheWrap.com, she's in final talks to star in an adaptation of Jean Hanff Korelitz's Admission. Never heard of the book before but based on reviews I read online, it seems like an interesting, insightful, if slightly pretentious and sentimental (?) look at the college admissions process. Most importantly, it did not seem to be a comedy. I immediately thought, "Ohmygod. This could be Tina's Eternal Sunshine." The Portia role seems to call for some legit acting, which I have always, always wanted to see Tina do. I don't really care if she bombs (although I don't believe she'll do that badly) or if she ends up playing another variation of herself; it'll be really exciting for me as a fan whatever the outcome is. See, this is my favorite thing about being a Tina fan - I get to see her grow as a performer. It's pretty inspiring to watch an accomplished, hard-working 40-year-old woman breaking through her own comfort zone to try new things.
Unfortunately, it's going to be directed by the same guy who made Little Fockers, which has been getting awful reviews so far, and adapted for the screen by the same lady who wrote One True Thing. So basically they're turning it into a light, heartwarming comedy? Tina Fey wrote in a marital rape joke in 30 Rock's season premiere, for Pete's sake. Surely you can go a little darker than a mid-life crisis that results in goofy hijinks and a last-minute life lesson? Then again, she is only starting out in the movie business so maybe she wants to go for mass appeal first before doing more artsy stuff? Maybe.
Anyway, between this, Mommy & Me and her coming book, Tina's locked me into her fanbase until at least 2013. No complaints.
(Thanks to

miurt for the tip, BTW.)
