One step closer ...

... to a state of numbness about fear and violence.

Anybody else notice that the media coverage of the Virgina Tech shootings has been more "event" oriented than "tragedy that is to be deplored" oriented.   Almost every broadcast, whether radio or television seems to open with a comparison of this tragedy with past "school shooting rampages".  They're all full of "worst shooting in history", or "worst school shooting since ... " information bites.

SINCE WHEN DID WE HAVE A MASS MURDER OLYMPICS??!!

I thought about sending a letter like the following, but I don't know who to:

"Dear Mr Media Mogul-type,

Go ahead and report the news.  It's your job.
Please stop setting up challenges for future, or, as-yet-unrealised sociopaths to strive for.
Please stop creating a competition for "the greatest mass murderer of all time".
Really, you've done enough if you tell me about the sickness of my fellow men, without goading more of the sick puppies into ever greater efforts.

Sincerely,
a parent who would rather see this type of thing die quietly, rather than raised to an art form."

Sorry friends, I'm ranting here, but, this is a really good place to get this off my chest, so I guess you're elected as listeners.
