*Nods* Well-said. I know several people will be down on humanity as a whole due to the shootings, but there are also people like Mr. Librescu. And in all honestly probably a lot more.
Humanity isn't defined by it's worst impulses and individuals, we must also remember the best.
Thank you for posting this. It is people like Mr. Librescu who need to be remembered and honored. It is also a good reminder that no matter how bad things can sometimes look, there is some good to be found in humanity.
From reports I've heard, Mr. Librescu was hardly alone. Students helped hold the doors as well. 20 year old students...KIDS.
I'm really not down on humanity after yesterday because of the stories like this one, but I can't deny that i've felt sick over it for the past two days. Half the folks in my office are Hokie alums, and there's something really disturbing about watching the news and having someone next to you gasp because they lived on the dorm floor where people were murdered.
I can't stop thinking of what a heinous waste of life this was, but as long as ordinary people such as Mr. Librescu perform extraordinary feats of bravery and kindness in a situation such as this, I can't feel that all hope is lost.

Would you mind if I linked to this post in my journal, David? I don't want to impose.
