I am never buying another CD from Sony. That's right, they have a new DRM program that also puts your computer at risk. Thank G-d I can get the same files without all of that BS from the iTunes music store.

i was under the impression that they were already in court because of this. arent they? do you think this will lead to more lawsuits? and do youthink this will have a genuin impact on sales for this lable? and what of the artists, do you think they might shun sony now or just brush it aside?

Sony has already demonstrated that it doesn't care about its customers. The president of the music division went on record as stating that he didn't think it was a big deal because most customers didn't know about it, and that if they violate copyright, they deserve to have their computers broken. So I don't think the lawsuits will rely provide much in the way of deterrance, at least until Sony is forced to cough up some dough.
As for the backlash, I definately think it's hurting Sony. I know plenty of people who don't want to buy their albums anymore. (And when I recently found some new spyware on my computer, the first thing I did was check to see if I had the rootkit.)

i need to go home and see if i have any sony music i might have ripped to my computer. i dont think so though, my music flavor is not very mainstream. also i am wondering if it would effect my iBook. i wish i still had a pc though. i am also wanting to know if my old spyware program would catch any of them. i found it caught nearly everything else imaginable. Webroot spy sweeper. i liked it cause it would display everything you would be loading when you installed a disk. this also gave you the option of deleating some componants before your next restart. hmm i wonder...
It doesn't affect Macs, and likely Linux computers either. The NY Attorney General is suing Sony in court, and no, don't try to remove it by yourself if you have the spyware, because that can fuck up your computer.

More importantly however, Amazon seems to be in a music give-away frenzy at the moment...
