So heres an update in the past nine weeks ive seen many large mammals in a national park and the people who live around it, who deal with these mammals threatening their lives everyday yet the government still protects these animals more than them. Ive lived with a muslim family on an island in the indian ocean, where the wife went through a painful appeals process to get a divorce after her husband had left her for over three years. I have snorkeled by a coral reef that is literally like being in a big tank in the aquarium, lived in a farm house with a dirt floor in these mountains where the only modern material items they had were a flashlight and a radio both battery operated and they used the money from my school to by the batteries, (i dont know if they are able to buy them year round, seeing as they live on rice potatoes and ugali (a corn mush) cooked over a charcoal fire) Ive seen a city of four million that doesnt have all the roads of downtown paved, Ive seen beautiful rainforest that i huffed and puffed up a hill to get to and saw people easily climb it to get necessary firewood, ive talked to people at a support group living with aids in a country where a tenth of the population is HIV positive. Ive stayed with a family in a small city who hope Tanzania can reach an "American economic level" and laughed at how his sons were like the bushmen in "the gods must be crazy" based on their reaction to this toy i gave them and didnt understand why i found that movie more offensive than funny. these are the experiences ive had so far and no i did not give one the care it was due in this entry but thats all i can possibly write about now.
