Oh, you would be surprised how many philosophies would disagree with that. A lot would argue that it would depend on the spiritual allegiance of the soul, or the kind of body it inhabits.
And others, religious ones, would argue that murder would be freeing. I believe some priests from the world Mayfield pretends to be a part of put it this way: "God will sort out his own." Which, of course, led to assorted atrocities, but that's religion.
Of course it doesn't. It simply deserves consideration. Take the twins who so happily plan out the murder of their drone family over the telephone. I am sure neither would even understand your point.
On the other hand, is it a crime when the victim will never realize it happened? Quite the philosophical conundrum, some would argue.
