Character name: Maka Albarn
Fandom: Soul Eater
Timeline: Chapter 46
Age: 14-15?
~*Magical*~ abilites and strengths: Maka is a weapons master, and more specifically, Soul's master. When Soul turns into a scythe, she can resonate her soul with his, making it possible for her to not only wield him, but perform powerful techniques such as Witch hunter and Demon hunter. She can also see other people's souls, letting her know how strong someone is. She's also gained the ability to use the black blood. She and Soul help each other overcome the madness that comes with it.
Appearance: Maka has mid-length, light brown hair that's pulled into low pig-tails to keep out of her face while she battles evil spirits. Her eyes are a light-ish green; not so green that that they remind you of tree leaves but not dull enough to be bland. Her frame and body are small (almost...undeveloped as some characters would put it), but she is definitely not weak. She her main outfit consists of something that looks like a school uniform; stripped tie over a white button shirt under a tan vest with red plaid skirt. And over all that, she wears a long coat, completely with coat tails and large buttons.
Background/Personality:
Despite having grown up in crazy environment of Death City, her mother being an amazing weapon meister and her father being the Death Scythe for Shinigami, and aiming to help Soul become a Death Scythe, Maka Albarn is a fairly normal teenage girl. She has problems with boys (See; Soul Eater), problems with her parents (well, more like parent - her father, Spirit, is sometimes more trouble than he's worth), and problems just growing up. She goes to the school for meisters and weapons, Shibusen, where she strives to do the best she can.
Maka is a strong girl at heart, but she is still human. She gets afraid, and doesn't knows she doesn't always make the right choice. But she always follows her heart, and she'll do whatever it takes for her friends, which she constantly proves all the time in her canon.
The series begins with Soul and Maka aiming toward getting 99 evil souls and one witch soul, so Soul could become a Death Scythe a scythe used by the ruler of Death City, Shinigami-sama. They worked hard for every single one they got, and it was a difficult game trying to defeat Blair the Witch in order to obtain her soul. In order to win, Soul had to trick Maka into thinking he was leaving her for the much more ~*~*mature*~*~ looking Blair. It had hurt Maka. He reminded her of her father in that moment, and she didn't understand why Soul had suddenly changed. Her faith in him was restored though when he proudly claimed that 'cool guys don't mess around'. Together, they were able to defeat Blair and Soul was able to eat her soul.
Unfortunately though, they had messed up. Blair wasn't a witch; merely a cat pretending to be a witch. With their mistake, all of the progress was destroyed and they were now back at the beginning; zero souls and no closer to getting Soul Death Scythe status.
It was a mistake they soon wouldn't forget. Maka and Soul were given extra lessons and sent on extra mission to make up for it. During these extra missions, they meet Black Star and Tsubaki, and Maka learned the technique Witch hunter (in which she also learned that control is everything after almost killing Black Star with it). They met Stein, one of the strongest meisters ever who supposedly went insane and needed to be taken out. The four battle him to no avail and Maka discovered another technique of hers; the ability to read others souls. She almost backed down from the fight, knowing that there would be no way to defeat him. Soul encouraged her though, and they performed one last Witch hunter attack in order to take him down. Stein stopped it easily though, surprising Maka. What surprised her even more though was when he announced the lesson was over and that they had passed; he revealed the whole plot behind his attacking them. Shinigami-sama had asked him to help teach them a lesson. He also revealed that he would become their teacher...and it wasn't exactly something they wanted to hear after almost being killed by the man.
Maka and Soul continued to do extra missions though, even after they had proved they weren't failures. During a mission to Italy though, things once again didn't go as planned. They finished their initial mission, but Maka sensed something out of the ordinary in the city. There was a lot of human souls gathered around a meister and weapon. Despite Soul not wanting anything to do with it, Maka insisted that they check it out. It was just too weird to be normal.
Upon arriving at the cathedral, all of the human souls disappeared. Maka was shocked. Even if the meister soul was evil, there was no way for it to consume that many souls, that quickly. They moved in cautiously, and see Crona, a meister who's merged with her weapon, and has also been possessed with the black blood. The fight her, learning that almost nothing can harm her because of her black blood. The blood merely hardens and stops Maka's attacks. Crona's Demon sword can also damagae Soul, even when he's in his weapon state, and as soon as Maka learns that, she stops defending against the other. Soul demanded that she defend herself but she refused, not wanting to hurt Soul. Crona went in for to kill Maka, but before she could hit Maka, Soul used his body as a shield. Maka was devastated as she watched Soul fall to the ground, severely injured. She froze with fear and worry, not able to run when Soul told her to. Before Crona could deliver the finishing blow, Stein and her father arrive and defeat her. Before they could get away from the area, the person controlling Crona revealed themselves; Medusa the serpent witch. She attacked them before grabbing Crona and leaving to fight another day.
They get back the to the Shibusen, where Soul is taken care of and given stitches. Maka stayed by his side, not wanting to leave for two reasons. Soul was her weapon and partner. She would never ever leave him behind. And because of the intense guilt she felt for letting Soul get hurt. She blamed herself; if she had read the situation better...if she hadn't gotten curious about what was going on...then Soul wouldn't have ended up almost dying for her. Despite him telling her that it wasn't her fault, Maka blamed herself. When ever she would see the scar on his chest, the feeling would return ten-fold, making things more awkward between them. She couldn't help it. She wanted to pretend it never happened, but whenever she did, the feeling became worse.
So she decided to make a promise.
She promised to never let him get hurt because of her again. No more scars would appear on him for her sake. She wouldn't run anymore; she would be strong for Soul, and for herself.
To become stronger, Maka asked Stein for ways to try and get stronger. He puts them through a special training but it has the opposite effect. They fight and argue during the session, causing their souls desynchronize. Their next mission proves just how heavily this affected them, where they fight against an escaped witch-prisoner named Free, an immortal werewolf. They attempt Witch hunter, which completely failed. Their souls didn't resonate. Maka's hands burn when ever she touches Soul in weapon form; things seem hopeless for them.
It isn't until Tsubaki scolds them for bickering that they realize why they weren't synchronizing. They weren't accepting each other's opinions, only thinking of themselves. Their inability to compromise and accept each other, was the barrier. They finally relaxed, Maka admitting that she wanted to be strong with Soul. She no longer wanted to be stronger than him to protect him. They would protect each other and fight with each other; total synchronization.
Unknown to both Soul and Maka, was that Soul had taken in some of Crona's black blood when he was slashed. So while their souls resonated, Soul unintentionally spread the black blood to Maka, and almost consumed Maka's soul. Their souls resonated was stronger than it had ever been though, allowing them to defeat the immortal. With the balance restored between them, Soul even offered to cook for her while her hands healed.
On Chrismas Eve, all hell broke loose in the Shibusen.
Medusa was planning to awaken the Kishin Asura, the original evil spirit and the strongest. Shingami had managed to contain him, but because of the demon's terrifying strength, he was never able to kill him. She attempted to lock all of the meisters and their weapons in the school, but she was foiled, and 9 were able to escape; Black Star and Tsubaki; Death the Kid, Patty and Liz; Maka and Soul; and finally, Stein and Spirit. Stein explained how the Kishin was kept hidden under the school and how they had to stop Medusa from releasing the psychotic demon. They needed to get the black blood away from the witches, so they wouldn't be able to revive. The plan was to split into groups; Stein and Spirit would face Medusa, Black Star and Tsubaki would take Crona, while Kid, Patty, Liz, Maka and Soul would focus on securing the black blood from Eruka.
But for some reason, with Soul and Maka around, things never follow their exact path.
Maka wanted revenge against Crona. She wanted to show that she could defeat Crona and not let Soul get hurt anymore. She wanted to prove her strength, and she knew exactly how to do it. She allowed the black blood's madness take over her. She told Soul to let it take over her, saying she trusted him to bring her back. And so he let it. She fought in a crazy manner, abusing Crona beyond what was necessary. During her trip into insanity, she found Crona's soul and entered it. It let her understand why Crona was the way she was. The pink haired meister was merely alone and afraid. She purged Crona's soul of the negativity it had. Maka struggled out of the black blood; the only thing that saved her from the madness was Soul, who pulled her from the darkness and back to reality. She offered Crona understanding and friendship, wanting to help the other who had become precious to her in such a short amount of time.
Despite defeating and helping Crona, and Stein killing Medusa, the others weren't able to stop Asura from being revived, bringing a new age of despair and fear into the world. Medusa's sister, Arachnae, took him under her wing, encouraging his fear and madness. They need to stop them both, no matter what. Medusa come back to Shibusen with a plan, offering to lead them into into Arachnae's lair. Despite the risk, the plan is accepted and Maka, Kid, Black Star and their weapons go with her.
1st person sample: S-Soul?!
Okay okay Maka. Be brave. There's no need to panic just because Soul isn't here. We just got separated. It shouldn't be hard to find him. Or maybe it's a dream that's being caused by-
...Wait. Where is this? This...isn't Arachnae's lair. Where's Medusa?!
[Sighs heavily, trying not to get overwhelmed]
I just need to find everyone. If I can find everyone, things will be fine. And I'm not completely defenseless! Far from it. This place is just...Weird. At least there's a map. That will help with something. Maybe there's something in here that can...Er. I'll look at it more later.
3rd person sample: Maka winced as she woke up the next morning. So much had happened in such a short time. Asura had been revived. Crona had become a friend instead of an enemy. She and Soul had learned how to overcome the black blood.
Soul...
Maka got up, not bothering to get out of her pajamas and crept out of her room. She looked to Blair in her cat form, lounging on the top of the couch before peaking into Soul's room. Of course, the silver haired boy was still asleep. He'd done just as much a she had...or really anyone else. She shut the door softly before going to the kitchen and getting to work.
She was filled with mixed feelings. It felt wrong to just be going through life when there was an insane demon on the loose that could potentially drive the whole world insane. She pulled out some pans and her apron, mouth set in a slight downward curve. Maka didn't understand why her stomach wouldn't stop churning. Shinigami-sama told them to be strong, but she wasn't sure how strong she could be when even he couldn't take down Asura.
Maka tied her apron on still thinking. So many things. Too many things to think about when she was so tired and sore. She wasn't sure. She was never sure. But...For now, she just had to do the things she could. And when she could help, she would do her best, for everyone. Soul would help her too. That was something she could always count on, even in the waves of madness. Black Star, Tsubaki, Kid, Liz and Patty were people she could count on too.
She smiled for the first time that morning before pulling out the eggs. Live life with the friends she had. She could do that for now.
