Scanning through the "Best of 2007" edition of The Pitt News, I came across this little gem:
Best Place to Break Up:
Facebook
One of the runner-ups was text messages.
How much would it suck to wake up after a long night of drinking to find a text message from
your former significant other telling you that he or she has broken up with you? This is the
part where I start to feel a little old-fashioned. Text messages are 1) impersonal as all
hell and 2) very short. Unless you have a phone with real email and a real keyboard, it can
be tough to get everything you need to say out there in 160 characters or less. The point
remains that getting a text that says something like "U R DUMPED :(" just seems to ring hollow
for me. Of course this is more for the people who would be willing to get crappy jokes sent to
their phone for $9.99/mo by texting "SHITTYJOKES" to 12345.
Facebook isn't much better. Again, it goes back to that old-fashioned streak I guess I have.
I don't have a burning desire to break it off with whats-her-name by publicly declaring it on
Facebook. Why do that when I can just take a Sharpie to a bar and write bad things about her
on the wall of the men's room and maybe if I'm feeling artistically inspired, draw an
unflattering caricature as well?
That's all for now.
