Maybe question isn't the right word. Perhaps it's more of a rhetorical musing...
Someone mentioned the ages-old rule about not wearing white shoes after Labor Day not long ago, and it piqued my curiosity. Sure, I've heard of this rule in the past, but never really had half a mind to give more than half a shit about it. It was one of those things that always seemed stupid and pointless to me (refer to my earlier post about the bottom button on a suit jacket or sport coat for more...), but now with this new-fangled Internet thing, I figured it was worth taking 2.3 seconds to Google for a reasonable answer.
Several answers came up - some reasonable, some not. One was that white clothing reflects heat, so it will make you colder in winter. Perfectly reasonable. Another was that wearing summer clothes out of season was just flat-out bad manners. Not coming from the world of weekend polo matches, a summer house in the Hamptons, finishing schools, or debutante balls, this answer gets promptly filed in the who-gives-a-shit drawer.
Thoughts?
