The Tired and Silent Type

Wow, so it's been awhile since I've really posted. It has dawned on me that doctoral school is kicking my butt. 'Nough said. Birdy was a flower for Halloween, and I her gardener. We went "tick r' teating" and she had a blast. Who knew that all candy could be called a cookie? Pictures to be taken soon, no worries! She actually walked the entire three blocks and back until the house next to the lot we're on, that's a lot of walking for her little legs! She's sooo cute when she says Happy Halloween!

Speaking of little miss, you wouldn't believe the amount of hair she's finally starting to grow! Someone at UUCE commented on it and it had only been two weeks since she last saw her! Her vocabularty is huge! She's finally starting to actually answer questions, and some of the answers she comes up with leave me laughing for hours! We're also beginning to enter the "terrible twos" and are getting frequent tantrums, fits, and overall meltdowns. A lot of this has to do with our schedule (which sucks big time) and the fact that both of us are consistantly tired, but... we'll get through it. I bought her a bunch of grarage sale shoes in August/September in size 5 and the little squirt has already just about outgrown them! Would you guys believe that she'll turn two in 27 days? I can hardly believe it! She's getting SO BIG!

Midterms are finally over, yay! Unfortuantely the onslaught of schoolwork hasn't slowed and now my students are getting testy when things don't go up on blackboard immediately. Sorry! GTF contract only allows 12 hours a week! I have to say, where did these undergraduates get the idea that they don't need to keep track of this shit themselves? I remember that asking for a grade check usually took a good week or more and sometimes just wasn't possible when I was in undergrad, and blackboard was around then too! It's almost amazing the number of extra e-mails I had to answer to explain that the 6 hours of classes I attend and the 6 hours of grading a week plus prep time and office hours adds up to more than 12 and so I couldn't input attendance into blackboard... sigh. And the whining! I don't think I whined that much as an undergrad. I really don't think I did. One student even did the ALL CAPS thing at me in an e-mail because I took off points for bad grammar. I'm sorry, this is college. If I can't understand what you're trying to say because the grammar is so bad then you deserve to lose points! (I know, not proper syntax, but I'm not looking for perfection... just legibility!) When did college become more dumbed down than my high school experience? I know I took four AP classes my senior year, but still! I find it odd that the first time I've actually been challenged in school except for gifted classes and a college comp class with my gifted teacher has been my doctoral program. This says something important about the American school system, but I digress.

So yeah, thus is life. Getting over a sinus infection, my acupuncturist is amazing! The rainy season has finally started here... it's decided to rain for the past three days. I've heard I'll get used to it, but my comments of "it's raining!" seem to still amaze other people. I get this vibe of, "why is she suprised?" So I like rain, it makes me feel like a kid again when it rains. I need to find some fun rain boots, I haven't decided what yet, but I'm thinking frogs or ducks. I'll have to see what I can find.

It's getting late, at 6am will come around waaay too early. I can't wait to see everyone again. Enjoy the beautiful blue sky over KC.
