I found some relief to my impending summer feeling of general meaninglessness: I signed on to be a copy editor for Wikipedia so that people can assign me messy articles. I've already made some minor corrections to entries on Nas, UMaine and the Mountain Goats, mostly involving commas. There are plenty of articles that could use some expanding, especially on local articles. Hopefully, I can give my writing a workout and actually contribute to Wikipedia, which is easily the best Web site ever (if not the best thing ever).
Besides that, all I've got is a dishwashing job at Margarita's. I still need to find a day job so I can live my dream of being able to afford all the extravagent things I want to buy this summer (laptop, portable mp3 player, cell phone... car???) without leaning too hard on student loans.
But besides that, summer lucks fuckin peachy. Sun, the UK in late June, opportunity for exercise and a way to contribute to the world's greatest hub of knowledge. Also, I found out the big tree in our front yard is very climbable.
Right now I'm reading Confederacy of Dunces, which was a runner-up for the New York Times' best novel of the last 25 years. It's kind of funny, and the character of Ignatius is pretty absurd, but I get the feeling I get listening to Pavement: "I'm supposed to really like this." But it's not striking the chords it should in me, maybe because it's influenced so much fiction since that I can't appreciate its uniqueness, or maybe because I'm just missing something. But I'm only like 40 pages in, so maybe it'll pick up.
