Saw it a few days ago. I wasn't able to watch it at midnight on the day of because I had class/work all in one day or the day after. Boo, but at least I still saw it within the first week. Anyway, I'll make this short.
Went to the midnight showing (my first, yay! I was proud of myself) and then went again yesterday with my Dad.
Completely agree on the Umbridge and Luna bit. I hated Umbridge so much, I loved her, and Luna was absolutely perfect. I wouldn't mind having her face stuck in my memory when I'm reading the books. Rupert, Dan, the twins, and Voldemort (yes, indeed!) are definitely hot. I think I melted every time I saw Rupert's arms or Dan's neck close-ups. I'm all about the arms and jaw ;)
As for lines, I really wish the twins had said, "Give her hell for us, Peeves" when I realized...Peeves has never been in the movies. Damn. And as for Snape, what little lines he had I believe worked really well. The "Yes...Obviously" and "I have nooo idea" made me laugh. The Occlumency scenes were also good...overall, my Dad left the theater asking me if Snape was good or bad. And he hasn't read the books - he just loves the graphics of the movies, all that technical stuff (he went nuts during the fighting scenes) - so he's only going by the character in the movies. Trust me, that was one tough question to answer.
Ummmm...
GOD I just love this movie. I really wish they put more in, but then we're looking at nearly a 12 hour movie. Which, only the HP fans could enjoy, but still, that's quite a long time to be sitting, even with an intermission. I think, with all they crammed into the movie, it was brilliant :)
Midnight premieres are always SO FUN! That and you're like, SCORE! I'm the first. ;)
I agree, I wouldn't mind that Luna being in my head when I read the books, either. She toned it down a bit, but she was still perfect. :) And I think Peeves was in . . . PoA? But only for like, 2 seconds, so people wouldn't have understood anyway. :( Sigh. I TOTALLY loved Snape's lines (what little of them he had, anyway) also, they were delivered perfectly and his dryness, jesus, I LOVE!
Did you end up answering your dad? He should read the books! :)
I told him: 1) Snape used to be a Death Eater... 2) switched sides and joined the Order, but played spy for Dumbledore because he still had access to the DE meetings... 3) killed Dumbledore in the 6th book... 4) so now everyone's confused!
No one in my house has read the books because I keep them safely hidden away in my room. They don't know where to find them. Here's a tidbit: I didn't like Harry Potter at all until after the first movie had come out (I didn't see that, either). It was Thanksgiving and my grandmother was tired of me not giving in to the HP pull, so she told me I couldn't eat my dinner until I read 3 chapters of the first book. She's a huge canon fan (will not go to the movies though, she believes her imagination will be corrupted).
Needless to say, I didn't eat dinner until I was done with the second book, because I loved the series so much :) That's a Thanksgiving I'll always remember!
