Tutorial | Manipulation #001

Like requested, the tutorial for the "What I've Bloody Done" photo manipulation. ^^

The picture is from last year's photoshoot and the ripple stock from http://www.aboutpixel.de/. You should know where to find a mask layer / curve layer and how to add them / work with them.

We start with the picture and tidy it up. Sharpen, smoothing and whatever you think is good for your image.

Now I used the Burn Tool with the following setting

and brushed over the left and right side of the girl. Over some parts I moved more times than one to darken the specific area.

I desaturated, resized the stock image and moved it in the canvas until the middle of the ripples were positioned over the girl.

Then I moved it down until the bottom of the stock image (and the beginning of the bottom ripples) were aligned with the beginning of the ground.

Next I added a mask layer to the ripple stock and - on the layer mask - cleared everything down to the beginning of the ground. Then I cleared the feet and gun as well.

Set the ripple stock layer to Overlay | Opacity: 100%.

In the next step I used the Smudge Tool with the following setting

and zoomed in on the reflection of the water blobthingy. Carefully I smudged over the areas to remove the reflection and make it look as if the ripples were not interrupted by it.

Next I added three curve layers with different settings.

To add the blood, I deselcted the three curve layers and then made a new layer.

On that layer I brushed with a round soft brush in #FC0000 along the ground.

Again I moved carefully around the feet and the gun.

Set the layer to Color Burn

and Opacity: 85%

and finally Fill: 20%.

Then select again all three curve layers and be in awe of the bloody mess you've created. *grins*

Add a few finishing touches like text

or a black border.
