That too wide, shit-eating grin that's been absent recently? It's back. And its owner isn't far behind.

"Cute little ones y'got there."

Mel glances up, and gives him a friendly grin. But for all that, she does gather Hana into her arms and glance at where Loo is sitting thoughtfully.

"They know it, too."

"Don't they just?"

He squats down, watching them, slightly ragged captain's coat spread out around him. Contrary to popular belief, Gin does not eat babies often.

Probably.

"How old?"

Mel's still not letting Hana go, but the girl settles comfortably in her lap, babbling to herself. Loo stops her exploration to look up at Gin.

"Nine months."

He nods approvingly, extending one pale hand towards Loo.

"Can't be safe for 'em here, yeah?"

[grabber_fray]

Loo laughs at the hand, and reaches out with both her own tiny hands, trying to hit at his. Mel lifts Hana up to sit on her hip, and rises up into a crouch.

"We've only been attacked once. So far it'ssafer than where they were born."

"That's good, anyhow. 's easy to hope that we don't go 'n get attacked again, right?"

The ways he says it seems to say very clearly that he expects many more.

"We fought 'em off, we'll do it again," Mel says, a note of amusement in her voice that's probably put on for the baby in her arms.

"No one got hurt, and we know how each other fights, now."

"Sure, sure."

He wiggles a finger at the baby. Smirks.

"But if not..."

Loo shouts in laughter and tries to grab the finger. Mel stands and approaches them both.

"If not," she says blandly. "I'll die before they do."
