These small details are important.

Steph drops out of the skylight, lazily. (The first thing she and Tim did was to make sure they could open it easily from above. Smashing through skylights is fun, but it's not like they can replace it.) She grins at Faye, landing on the bar. "I smell glorious caffeinated ... caffeine!"

Of course it is! I just didn't want to infringe upon the Bats. (I am obviously still sleepy!)

Faye glances up as the skylight opens, and grins at the exuberant blond. "I forget how you take it."

"Caffeinated." Steph grins at her. "White, sweet, I'm not really fussy. I keep meaning to get fussy about coffee, but it's not like we have this huge selection here or anything, so it's prob'ly best I don't. What've you been up to, Faye?"

She grins and pours coffee, sugar, and creamer into a mug, stirs it briefly, and hands it over.

"I have been up to.... Pretty much nothing. Met this guy named Ray. He's neat. Spent some time outside, flopped on the ground, sunbathing, and he was all 'let me do that for you!'. He's good people, just a bit flirtatious.

"Hey, I know Ray." Steph grins. "I don't know him that well. I'm pretty sure he totally has a reputation for being flirty anyway. But you're cute, why wouldn't he?"

At least, going on what the mun knows of the Ray, which is basically what was in YJ. He was totally flirty there. Or was that the other girls? ... Moving along!

"Man, coffee always tastes better when you make it."

"I am so not cute," she says, rolling her eyes.

"And thanks. It's because I put a little bit of PSP in each pot." A huge grin.

"You so are!" Steph protests. "And you do not. ... Do you?"

She rolls her eyes, then grins. "Of course I don't, Steph."

[i_spoiled_it]

"Sure?" Steph teases, grinning, and crossing her legs comfortably. "No, way, we were totally talking about important things, like whether you're cute or not. I am totally a good judge of cute, and I say you are. So."

She rolls her eyes again, even possibly blushing a little. "I really am not."

"Are you calling me a liar?" Steph demands, with her best 'wounded' expression.

"...No," she says, looking down.

"Hey," Steph says, a little startled, "I didn't mean it. I was just teasing. ... you all right?"

She purses her lips slightly, then tells Steph about what happened with her dad.

By the end of the story, she has Steph's arms wrapped around her, in a slightly tentative hug. "Oh, Faye. I'm sorry."

She leans into Steph, sobbing.
