Marcus Vick: Great football player that made some bad decisions. As far as skill, I'd say he's a better (on-the-field) decision maker than his brother. He doesn't take off and run at the drop of a hat and thus stays healthier and stronger as a result. But his off-the-field decision-making skills are obviously lacking, and it's for this reasonI was glad to see him dismissed.
Now don't get me wrong, I bleed orange and maroon. I scoured the internet for weeks trying to find tickets to my first Primetime game, and enjoyed it so much that I took a friend (a Wahoo I converted to our side at the BC game) back to Blacksburg for the high price of $100 a seat to watch the game (not a good one for Tech) from higher up than the jumbotron. And we stayed.
VT football has always had the reputation for being a blue-collar, hard-working, hard-hitting football team. Marcus lived up to only pieces of that. He could handle the hard work on the field, but when the time came to make the hard decision off the field, he failed.
And it isn't like he didn't have plenty of examples to follow. Daryll Tapp is one of the players I'd say exemplifies everything VT football is about. Bryan Randall- probably not the best quarterback to play at VT as far as winning percentage and statistics (though he broke records, I know, and had a whale of a year last year) but definitely the most upstanding leader the team has ever had.
So, Marcus: Farewell and good luck to you in whatever it is you decide to do. I wish things could have been different but what's done is done. And to the Hokie Nation: Let's look to the future. Sean Glennon and Cory Holt should do just fine for us next season. The future is still bright. GO HOKIES!
