Kenzie was setting up for Olivia's eighteenth birthday. She was running around trying to get the food around and calling Carter to make sure he was picking up the cake. Olivia walked into the room and saw her frantic mother. She walked up to her and grabbed her shoulders.
“Mom! You really need to chill out”
Kenzie slumped a little and smiled a little and cupped her face “It's not everyday that my baby girl turns eighteen”
Olivia smiled a little “I know but your getting a little to crazy”
Kenzie looked around the room “You think?”
Olivia nodded “Why don't you go pick up Aunt Grace from the airport and I'll stay here and do whatever”
“You sure?”
“Yep!”
“Thank you” She kissed her daughter on the cheek and left. Olivia watched her leave and went over to the fireplace where there was pictures of everyone. She looked at all of them, bringing tears to her eyes. She thought back to her conversation with Jenn on her graduation day about college. She knew she should go but was still deciding on it. She sighed and went to finish her mothers tasks.
Carter walked in with the cake before Kenzie got home.
“Whoa! That's a huge cake” Olivia said eyeing the cake Carter was carrying.
“Yeah I know! Your brother kept trying to get in it”
Olivia chuckled “Where...” before she could finish her sentence she could hear him running to the kitchen. He smiled as soon as he saw her “Sissy”
“Hey bud. I hear you want to eat my cake”
He giggled “Yeah”
Soon Kenzie and Grace walked through the door. Kenzie rushed into the kitchen and instantly went over to the cake to make sure it's what she paid for. She let out a deep breath, it's definitely what she wanted.
Grace hauled all of her luggage inside “That's alright I got it all” She shouted
“Shit” Kenzie turned back around and rushed to the front door to help her sister “Sorry! I had to check on the cake” Olivia walked out to the front door and smiled at Grace.
“Hi, Aunt Grace” She said pulling her into a hug
“Hey! How are you?”
“Good! Excited that I'm finally eighteen” She said with a smile
Grace raised an eye brow “Enjoy it while it lasts.”
Kenzie picked up one of her suitcases with a grunt and let it drop with a thud “Holy shit! What the hell is in here?”
Grace chuckled “Bathroom stuff mixed with clothes”
“Geez” Carter walked into the room and noticed Kenzie struggling with the suitcase
“Want me to take that?” He asked in amusement
“Yes please” Carter grabbed the suitcase and headed for the stairs.
“Uh where's Logan?” Olivia asked.
“Kitchen” Carter said then realizing that he should not have left him in there. Soon everyone heard the sound of the top coming off the cake and dropping to the floor.
Kenzie's heart dropped and ran to the kitchen “No no no no no” She ran into the kitchen to find Logan on the table about to slap his hand in the cake. She grabbed him and set him on the floor “I don't think so” Everyone ran in and was relieved to see she got to him in time
He jumped up and down whining “Cake cake”
“You'll get some later” She bent over to get the top and put back on
“Now” He whined
“I said no” She said sternly. He looked at her and ran out of the room and Grace followed him. Kenzie looked at Carter “YOU are lucky”
Soon the house was filled with family and friends. Kenzie was walking around talking to different people. Kenzie was talking with Josh when she saw Amber enter the room. “I'll be right back” She smiled and walked over to her. “Hey! Glad you could make it” She said hugging her
“Wouldn't miss it. Where is she?”
“She's over there” She pointed towards the pool
Amber smiled “You raised such a beautiful young lady.”
Kenzie smiled “Thank you!”
“Is she going to college?”
“Last I knew she was accepted into University of Alabama but she hasn't said anything about it. I would like her to.”
“Alabama? Wow”
“Yeah! Not ready for my baby to leave”
“I bet”

~~~With Olivia~~~~
“Have you thought about our talk we had recently?” Jennifer asked
Olivia sighed “Kinda!”
“And?”
Olivia ran a finger through her hair and played with her hands “I'm not sure I can do it”
“Yes you can, Olivia” Jenn looked off into the crowed and looked back at Olivia “I told your grandmother what was going on and---”
Olivia panicked “You told my Grandmother? Why would you do that?”
“Because I know she will get through to you”
“You said you would support me in whatever I wanted to do” Olivia stood up and walked towards the swing. Jenn followed her
“Yes but I really think you should go off and do other things”
They both heard foot steps coming behind them and looked back. Jennifer looked “I'll let you two talk” She said smiling at Meryl.
“Thank you, Darling” Meryl said and looked back at Olivia who sat on the swing with a somber look. Meryl sighed and walked over to her.
“She wasn't supposed to tell anyone” Olivia said in a dull tone looking at the ground.
Meryl sat down next to her “Well I'm glad she did” Olivia sighed but didn't say anything “Is it true that you don't want to go to college because of your brother and afraid I won't be around much longer?” Olivia tensed and shook her head yes “Look at me” Olivia looked at her with tears in her eyes “That is not a reason to go to college. I promise you I'm not going anywhere anytime soon and your brother will be fine. College is a great place to learn and you'll have fun. Trust me I know. It's not a reason to not go to college.”
“I'm just afraid” Olivia admitted
Meryl pulled her into a hug “Everything will be okay, I promise you”
Kenzie looked over near the swing and saw Meryl consoling Olivia. She knew what they were talking about and she was glad Meryl wanted to talk to her. She walked over to them and smiled at them when Meryl looked at her “We are ready for cake”
“Okay!” Olivia stood up and a slight smile reached her lips when she looked at her mom and then walked off to were everyone was gathered.
“Did you get through to her?” Kenzie asked
“I think so! She's just overwhelmed with everything. She'll be fine”
“Thanks Mom!” She pulled Meryl into a hug “I don't know what I would do without you” She said with a smile and then the both of them joined everyone else singing happy birthday to Olivia and having a good time. When everyone was almost gone Olivia walked over to Kenzie and put her arms around her.
“Thank you for everything, Mom! I really appreciate it”
Kenzie fought back tears “You're welcome!” She kissed the top of her head. “I love you”
“I love you too”
“So did Grandma get through to you?”
Olivia pulled out of her embrace and looked at her “You knew too?”
“Yeah. Jenn was just worried about you. You really should go to college Olivia. It's not your responsibility to take care of Logan and to stay home because you think Grandma won't be around is not a good enough reason. As much as I don't want you to leave me you need to adventure out, have fun. Don't let anything hold you back”
“I know! I guess I’m just afraid of change and being away from my family.”
“I know how you feel. So what's it gonna be?”
Olivia looked Kenzie in the eye and was silent for a minute “I'll go”
Kenzie smiled “Good! I am so proud of you”
“Thanks!” Olivia hugged her Mom and went off to her room. Her whole life is about to change. She is about to go off to collage in a few months and experience new things or will her life take a turn for the worst?
