Flora and Fauna
Many of the plants and animals that Stray is familiar with are unknown to the rest of Terrace and therefore have no proper scientific name. As such they can only be identified by the more casual colloquialisms that the duskstrider has assigned them.
Bonesand - what appears to be a slightly paler patch of sand in the already white desert is actually the home to a billion little mites that can strip flesh from bone within seconds. Found primarily around the ruins located central most in the desert, bonesand is of little consequence as long as it is avoided. Stray has found that singing calms the otherwise murderous terrain enough that she can go exploring in the forgotten realm it protects.
Cattin - known to Stray as sandiggers or simply thieves, cattins are small, vulpine creatures highly valued for their fur. To the world outside the desert, cattins are a rare species; to Stray they are quite common and can become a nuisance as they are prone to stealing her kills if she's not vigilant.
Desert orchid - a rare plant that blooms only once every four years, Stray will proudly inform inquirers that she has seen the flowers three times. With pale purple petals fading to a darker amethyst heart, watching the flowers blossom is the only time Stray actually likes her eye color.
Draconians - much like the Western dragons of Earth myth, these large reptiles with massive wingspans are known for their haunting calls and "songs". Easily the largest creatures in the desert, they are fiercely loyal to their pack and raise their hatched young with a more mammalian affection than most cold-bloods. Stray was raised by a draconian and learned a great deal from their wild intelligence.
Duneswimmers - most aptly described as a hybrid of an Eastern dragon and crocodile, duneswimmers are rarely seen by outsiders due to their unique mode of traveling. Using the sand as more of a liquid than a solid, they use their powerful forelegs to, quite literally, swim beneath the desert's surface. More than one wayward traveler has met their end in the gaping maw of a duneswimmer without even realizing their danger.
Thunderhooves - while small and petite, these relations to Earth's deer are quite fierce and have been known to take down duneswimmers en mass. Thus dubbed by Stray due to the sound of their galloping across the vast desert, they are the largest warm blooded creatures to dwell there.
