1:17 AM.

My story for writerinadrawer is due by tomorrow at 3 ... I have to leave for work in about six hours. No inspiration is forthcoming. I have one sentence written, and it's not a sentence I'd build a fic around ( Read more... )

I just saw this now but... *cheerleads* you can do it!

I once forgot until 45 minutes before the deadline, and I was packing to leave on a trip. Whipped something out in half and hour and made it past the mark (I also think I got a LOT of comments on it - something like 5 negative and 3 positive. It was bizzare.)

Thank you! Given that two people defaulted this week, I'm not sure if I should say whether or not I actually made it. >.>; But I did.

Wow. Which one was that?

I've had mixed reactions on ones I've written upon waking at four in the morning and popped out before work. One won, the other got the most negative votes I've known myself to get to date.

(Yay if I'm allowed to know that! I don't see why not. It's not like I know which one's yours anyway.)

It was the, um... the TV episode title one. I wrote a funny, silly fic, and some people loved it and some people thought it was out of character. I saw what the neg. voters meant, but it was quite amusing!

All but two weeks I've submitted (and wrote) the day of. I'm not a rewriter, or someone who takes a long time to write something once I've got an idea - I basically sit down and whip it out - so it's not bad, but as the word count goes up I'll have to be more careful about doing that. This week I submitted... tuesday? Definitely a record. And I've already voted, woo! Now I'm all impatient for Sunday.

(True enough. There are still eleven of us.)

Oh! I remember that one. I liked it! I didn't vote for or against it, but I thought it was cute ... and funny, and silly, which was what you were after.

I work 8-5 almost every weekday, except for the occasional Thursday off when I get dropped into weekend rota, so I usually do my writing on Thursday nights, if I'm not feeling inspired earlier into the week. I think the submission deadline time is very unfortunate, IMHO.

I think my record is Tuesday, too, and that was back on 2.04. I usually cultivate an idea, turn it over in my head for a good long while, find my hook, and then get it written relatively quickly when I actually sit down to write.

I've voted, too. I'm interested in seeing what happens because there was only one person to be voted out this time!

Indeed - will one person get them all, or will they be really distributed?

*really tries hard to resist talking about the individual stories where Lifty could see and hunt me down and banhammer me*

I'm interested to see that, myself ... honestly, no one stuck out to me with a red flag that said, "Yeah, this person's getting voted out." And I didn't think any one stuck out as a winner, either. Well, obviously I had MY opinion, but it doesn't always mesh with the majority.

::Does the same!:: Hey, I guess we could talk about them on Sunday.

I agree about there being no clear stand-out either way, and usually I vote with the masses. I feel like there was something about this prompt - or maybe the intermediate sort of word length? Not short enough to be really BAM and not long enough to really elaborate? - that lead to a dearth of really punchy fics.

We should! I'm so curious about this whole process. There's not enough chat at the Lounge (though it's hard because we can't talk about it till it's over, really). I definitely enjoy going and giving people real fb when they ask for it after the reveal, though.

I find myself usually voting one down from the masses ... that person who comes in second place with one or two votes less than the winner. That's happened several weeks.

I think the specific of the prompt being an item that was used to be innovative with made it a little trickier than it could've been with just 'innovation' in general. Of course, that might've been too broad, so I guess there had to be some specifics ...

There definitely isn't enough chat over there. I've tried to provoke discussion, but I forget it doesn't really work in the same way as a forum, where everyone jumps on the same bandwagon and comments on everyone.

I definitely enjoy going and giving people real fb when they ask for it after the reveal, though.

Me too. Because I know if they're asking for it there, they really want it, rather than those authors who tack on, "PLEASE COMMENT ON MY FIC!!" to get compliments.

... man, we keep having the craziest LJ threads. We should consider some form of IM. Lol.

... do you have a gmail account/use google chat? That's what I'm regularly (read ALL THE BLOODY TIME) on, though I sometimes use the lj chat thingy to chat with my beta.

I contemplated starting a WiaD post in the off-topic section of TWU, but I wasn't sure how many people over there are doing it.
