Being part of someone's overgrown lab experiment is not something I intend to play along with. But until I can get this chip out, I suppose I'll have to pretend.

Miss Pekelai, thank you for the coffee. Marlene, Lilo, I'm right down the hall; if you need anything, just come in or shout-- either I'll be there or Cait will. And I imagine I'll check ( Read more... )

Glad to see you're settling well. I'm...really glad we have someone around who's got more direct experience in city planning than anyone else I've seen combined. Maybe now we'll be able to make some progress...

Ah- I'd like to ask for your help, setting up a sort of...Welcome office, desk, something to speed along the process of helping new people adjust and find what they need. I was thinking maybe one of the administrative offices in the High School, a nice centralish location?

Well, I built cities for a living before coming here; since it sounds like I may be here for a while, I might as well put that to good use.

Sounds like a good idea. Gaia knows this place needs something of the sort. I don't know where that is, but I'd be happy to help you with it. Cait Sith can store any information needed in his databanks until something better is arranged, and it probably wouldn't hurt for people to know where they can find the different amenities. Especially since it looks like getting them is a chore.

Well, I think Pheonix Wright has the beginnings of a working census, and I have a much more outdated one in a marble notebook here...

We'd need to find volunteers to take shifts on all-hours greeting, since people show up unpredictably all over the place, it seems, any time of day. And then...some kind of compiled list of the open apartments, which doctors specialize in what, some kind of...directory for where to go about help with certain things, like...hunted meat, or repairs, or...self-defense training?

Between those, that should help some.

A map for new people to use, with that sort of information on it, would be immensely useful. Even some kind of directory... I wish I had a spare communicator like this. I suggested Cait since he only needs to recharge his batteries and he's good to go; he could be like an... operator of sorts, I suppose, with the information there. All one would have to do is contact him.

A compilation of open apartments would also let us gauge how much room we have before new buildings need to be erected, and listing out specialties could show us where we have gaps needing to be filled....

Hm. That sounds like it would work, and he's...certainly a personable enough personality?

We do have a map, someone drew it up a long time ago, and they're posted in the lobby of each residence, but...we could probably stand to update it by now.

It's a thought, anyway. Though having a central location where people can talk to others face-to-face would probably be more comforting to those who've just arrived.

Ah, I see. If there have been any major changes to the landscape, then it could be updated. Just have to get the supplies.

Yeah, some of us are thrown by all the hi technology communications and faceless strangers when we come, so...I think it would be nicer, and mean more too, to greet people in person, be able to calm them down if they're upset...that sort of thing.

A very good point. Well, we'll work from that angle, then. I still think Cait would make a good emergency communication point, but... well, I doubt there's any sort of government here.

At any rate, I'm at your disposal.

No. We've tried to begin talks about it, dozens of times, but...

Well, when you have people from so many different places, with so many different ideas of what's normal as far as laws and order go, well...

People argue. And run into problems. And eventually we all get frustrated with each other and give up on setting down anything.
