I finally got the whole story about Jannette's engagement... when I came into work this morning, she wasn't at her desk -- curse her for making me wait to see the ring and hear everything! I don't know that much about diamonds, but she says the diamond is 1 1/4 karats (princess cut, I believe) and the diamonds all around the band add up to about 2 karats. The band and setting is platinum... breathtaking! I don't know if I could ever wear something like that on my hand... I'd never look up from gazing at the ring. Made me remember when I was engaged to Steve, my first boyfriend (and the reason I worship Kate Bush). We were both so young -- I was either 19 or 20, and he's a year older than me. We got engaged for all the wrong reasons... he was so insecure, he thought it was the way to "keep" me. I remember gazing at that ring forever too... but for different reasons -- it made me feel trapped. When I gave it back to him, we both breathed a deep sigh of relief.

Although I won't be a bridesmaid in Jannette's wedding (THANK YOU, oh thank you, Jannette!), she says I will be involved in EVERY plan, for I will be the one to go dress shopping with her and be the sounding board for every idea. I like that. Her cousin Marisbel is the Maid of Honor. Jannette tells me to get ready for the party of our lives, for Latinos know hoow to eat well and have a good party! Her fiance Joe is half Dominican and Portugese, and she is Colombian. And she says that especially the Portugese need to eat very well at weddings -- the place could be a dump, as long as the food is good! :o)

She's looking at September 2006 for the wedding. She also says I have to get my ass to Puerto Rico for the bachelorette party... Oy.

Oh, so the actual engagement... Jannette's best male friend Will was in Miami for the radio forum I've written about in earlier posts. Joe had given him the ring to hold on to, to guarantee that she wouldn't stumble across it. When everyone was out to dinner Saturday night, they had just ordered their food when Jannette noticed that Joe hadn't eaten a bite off his plate (so unlike him, unless he's ill LOL). He was so nervous, and had the ring in his pocket, waiting for the right moment. HE IS *SUCH* A LEO -- he had his "audience" and it was time for the "show"... he raised a glass, to toast Raquel (our EGOMANIACAL talent manager FROM HELL), and a few words in, he said, "Nah, forget it..." Jannette glared his way and hit his arm... "Joe, don't be mean!" That's when he got down on one knee and said that since she had made him so happy for the past year and 8 months, he hoped that she would make him happy for the rest of his life...

Apparently, my boss Michele got the "perfect" photo of this moment... I can't wait to see it.

wedding, jannette
