"I still can't believe we're in the same school." Maeko laughed while she walked beside Tsubasa during lunch break. It's already been a month since they started high school. Maeko thinks it was a funny coincidence that they both got in at the same school and even ended up in the same class. Tsubasa would just smile whenever she'd talk about it.

"You should be used to it by now." Tsubasa replied. Ever since Maeko and him became friends, Kyoko and her group hadn't been bullying the girl. "Thanks for always guarding me, by the way." Maeko smiled.

Tsubasa chuckle and patted her head. "I'm not even doing anything."

"Maybe you aren't but, for some reason, it just feels like you are." She joked. Tsubasa didn't utter another word and just smiled. I won't let anyone hurt you, Maeko.

Months keep passing and Maeko has been living a peaceful life at school. She's happy with it but, she knows that Kyoko is just waiting for a time where Tsubasa isn't by her side. Staying with him made her feel secured yet, she didn't want to keep depending on him all the time.

"You're not going home yet?" Tsubasa asked when Maeko told him to go home without her. "I'll be fine. I just need to do some errands on my own."

Tsubasa can't help but feel worried. However, since Maeko insisted on it, he just did what he was told.

When she was sure Tsubasa had gone home, Maeko left the school on her own. "Maybe I should go to the grocery and buy something for dinner~ I'll cook something for Naoto." She skipped happily as she hummed to herself.

The moment she turned around the corner of the street, she found Kyoko waiting. Before she could go anywhere, Maeko was grabbed by her arms. Kyoko's group dragged her into an alley.

"Your knight isn't here to protect you, princess." Kyoko sneered as Maeko struggled to break free. "I don't need to be protected." Maeko answered back, shooting her a glare. Kyoko was taken aback by her reaction. Maeko changed. Before, she would just cry and scramble away from her in fear. Now, she even had to courage to talk back and glare at her.

Grabbing her hair, Kyoko said, "Don't act so brave just because Tsubasa is on your side." Maeko didn't answer back but she didn't show any signs of fear either. Kyoko lost her patience and slapped her. "Let's go, girls. I'm bored with her." The moment the group left, Maeko stood up and while trying to hold back her tears, she headed home.

"Where have you been?! Tsubasa called and said you asked him to go home without you today. We were both worried!" Naoto scolded as he ran towards his sister when she entered the living room. Maeko just smiled and answered, "I was just taking a stroll."

Naoto was worried; she knew. She won't let her brother worry about her any longer. And she won't depend on Tsubasa too much either. She didn't want to burden them just because she was weak. She won't go back to the Maeko who always cried and ran away from everything. Never again will she make Naoto and Tsubasa worry for her.

"I'm fine, Naoto. I'll always be fine...so, don't worry."
