[movie] 『のだめカンタービレ 最終楽章 前編』

Oct 15, 2010 20:48

Just finished watching Nodame Cantabile ~The Final Score~ Part I.

Excuse me while I go dry my eyes.

Review-type entry of the movie will come later.

I'm not exactly a huge fan of live actions, as I may have said somewhere before. Especially for this fandom; it takes many years to totally grasp musical understanding, whether it be theoretical or historical, so I always reserve judgment on actors/actresses who perform in music-related things without proper musical background. THAT SAID, I know Tamaki-san and Ueno-san have put in their own, best efforts to pull off this production, so I try to overlook any musical blunders it's kinda hard to ignore them though.

I mean, seriously? The way Chiaki conducts some parts of those songs, like Tchaikovsky's 1812 Overture - hahaha. And there's no way you can play Mozart's Turkish March like that, Nodame-chan. Well - I can't, especially when playing that quickly and lifting your hands so high up from the keyboard. O__O

Regardless. I really love this series for the diversity of music. Although a portion of the movie was recycled from previous live actions (the ending of the Tokyo chapter; the international conductor's competition, Platini) and the music was certainly reused, it never failed to keep me entertained/into the movie.

Plot-wise: manga chapters from 75 to 97, omitting Nodame's recital debut and Masayuki's appearance. The second half of the final movie would concentrate on Nodame's debut, her travel to Egypt, and the resolution, I believe.

The narrator for the movie is no one else other than the lovable(?) Franz von Stresemann, riding on horseback and setting the atmospheric direction of the movie - "it's going to be heavier, darker" - not only for himself, but for Chiaki and Nodame as well.

The owl bit right after was a little out of the blue, but alluded well back to the events before.

The real action begins back right before Chiaki is appointed as the resident conductor of the Roux-Marlet Orchestra. Elise is Elise, the slave-driver, with her motto, "agree before informing the participants." This part follows the manga plotline pretty well, right down to the funky haircut and glasses Frank(?) forces on Chiaki.

Nodame's face when seeing Jean Donnadieu's face plastered everywhere in Paris

WHAT IS WITH THE RANDOM BLIMP LMFAO

And Rui is back! There's tension everywhere now that she's on the scene.

the infamous Nodame!flying tackle~

CHOMP

And they rehearse Dukas' The Sorcerer's Apprentice, coinciding with Rui shopping (with Nodame acting as the coathanger), from Louis Vuitton to the flea market (KAZUO FIGURINE!) plus the incident of Nodame falling into the pond. Noticeably, this is the second time a ragdoll!Nodame was used.

Kazuo's head fell off and bounced down the stone steps, hitting the camera

the poor child's reaction when Nodame's skirt got flipped by the wind

in true Nodame-style, when Chiaki asked her to sub in for the celesta

She was SO adorable in this, and I thought that they choreographed it really well. It gave off a Disney-feel, which corresponds to the Dukas piece Roux-Marlet is performing.

The first performance with Chiaki conducting Roux-Marlet, with Rui on celesta. I think they might have skipped some of the story inbetween, because this happened pretty quickly. The concertmaster is a little different from what I thought he'd look like. As expected, their first performance is a total failure - wince with me for the duration of Bolero. OMG WHAT HAVE THEY DONE TO THIS SONG? ;______; The fagott (German bassoon! I wasn't making a slur :/), the oboe, the alto saxophone, the trumpets...

Matsuda-san's reaction to the TOTALLY BOTCHED UP performance

he had problems breathing after the applause, he was laughing so hard
Stresemann's composing?! ;__; This section was touching, but this is also the section that had all the flashbacks (and when I cried the first time). Not just because it was Beethoven's Symphony No. 7, but because of the history of when Beethoven wrote the symphony. It resonates with my heart (despite how cheesy that sounds). Chiaki looked so much younger back then;;; Second time crying was at the Platini's (Tchaikovsky). ._.

Auditions were held after the performance. I'll never get tired of looking at Kuroki playing oboe... ///

of course, you learn to avoid Nodame-curry (unless you're Kuroki, who already knows to not eat it for his own safety)

I mean, obviously it's not an ill omen or anything... (biggest kanji = death)

Exams of the Conservatoire students. And fast-forward to the new program, designed by James DePriest. Of course, Stresmann can't resist trolling Chiaki.

Matsuda-san is DEFINITELY not bitter about resident conductors in Paris (that's Jean Donnadieu, by the way, conducting the DesChamps Orchestra)

I'm guessing this is a DBZ reference between Nodame and Yuki??

Tension runs high between new and old orchestra members as the performance date draws closer. But this is also the third place where the tears started coming...because underneath all the squabbling, all the players practise day and night outside their work/regular rehearsal hours. (Also, please listen to the background music. LISTEN TO IT.) DON'T ASK, I'M KINDA SAPPY LIKE THAT;;

also, Catherine-chan is so cute; she reprimanded Chiaki! LOVE

And finally...the moment they've all worked for. (Tears for the fourth time!)
