Sometimes, mou hitori no boku looked a little too cute for his own good.

I leaned back in my chair to observe him as he sat at the desk and fumbled with the work in front of him. This all started when he insisted he wanted to learn more about modern Japan, and, to quote him, "give aibou less trouble" (the exact opposite happened, I assure you). Mou hitori no boku became fascinated with all things big and small, adorable and scary, and - ah yes, homework. As a teenager, I could only fathom so much as to why homework was so attractive, but he wanted to do some of it and I was all for the less work prospect.

Today was trigonometry. I didn't think I could let him handle the Japanese assignments (of this descent, I should be much more capable, thank you very much), or social studies since that required too much reading and he still wasn't proficient enough to process news as rapidly as I could. We studied history together, and whenever I did something interesting he would always sit beside me and ask inquisitive questions.

We always fought over math homework though. To both of us, math was like a game, and we made it like one. As soon as mou hitori no boku had grasped the basics of my school's problem-solving method, he was rivalling my speed in completing the many problems I was assigned that day. Never mind the fact that it was incentive that the one who finished first would get to top...

So why he was still stuck on the first problem tonight was a bit mystifying. Usually he would hate to lose, and with such stakes...

"Mou hitori no boku, why are you spacing out?"

"Hmm?"

Clearly, he was distracted. But what about? Today's set of problems wasn't particularly difficult; sure, I would expect Jounouchi-kun to stumble over a few of them, but not him.

"...Aibou," he said at length. "What exactly is wrong with this pen?"

"There shouldn't be anything wrong with it? Why do you ask anyway?"

"It's giving me...particular problems."

I raised an eyebrow. Trust mou hitori no boku to be so confused with such a simple instrument. "O...kay?"

"This is the red tab, right?" He clicked it and the nib stuck out. He scribbled on the paper. "But I'm getting green ink."

Jounouchi-kun... "Aah. Well. I'll be telling off Jounouchi-kun tomorrow for messing around with my pencil case again. Here, a pencil will be better for math anyways-" I handed him a mechanical one. "There should be enough lead in there."

And true enough, he finished all thirty-six problems in just a little under fifteen minutes.

It was about twenty past eight, and the rest of my family were downstairs enjoying the television.

"Guess who's topping tonight, mou hitori no boku?"

"This doesn't count, I still finished faster-"

"The condition was whoever finished first. Come on, mou hitori no boku, don't be sour about it."

I loved loopholes that he couldn't pick up.

Authoress' Notes: So by the end here you should be thinking "what modern inconvenience was there?!" because that was what was plaguing my mind the entire time. :/
