No Kindaichi icon. Pity. ;__;

Genre: Humour
Rating: G
Pairings: Hajime/Miyuki
Story Type: One-shot
Summary: Kindaichi Hajime didn’t believe in coincidences.

Disclaimer: Kindaichi Shounen no Jikenbo is the property of Kanari Yozaburo/Amagi Seimaru.

Spoilers: Um...nothing major, plot-wise, but I drew the idea from the Hirenko Legend Murder Case.

Warnings/Notes: This was requested by duelist_gurl163 from The “You Should Write” Meme, “something Hajime/Miyuki-ish.” I knew I’m going to end up kicking myself, because I still have one more prompt to finish up, but you know, I love the Kindaichi Files...

-----
The first time he spotted her in the café, sitting on the bar stools close to the one-piece glass window, she had told him it was her old senpai whom she hadn’t seen in a few years. The second time, at the same place, she had said it was a simple case of a kouhai treating her, as a thank-you for helping him. The third time - well, Hajime just didn’t (want to) believe in coincidences.

So he took it upon himself to ask her casually if she was doing anything after school - oh, you’re not? That’s great, let’s go grab a snack together, we haven’t hung out lately. She gave him a look, as if he had suddenly sprouted another head, but had agreed nonetheless. They were childhood friends; of course she’d be familiar with his quirks and behaviour.

- no, no, this behaviour of his was decidedly...different. Even he was a stranger to it. His stomach felt upset and his hands surprisingly clammy, yet he could feel sweat starting to accumulate and slide off his forehead. It didn’t feel much like a fever though. Nor was he allergic to anything. What was this?

Miyuki looked up from her drink and raised an eyebrow. “What’s the matter with you today? You’re acting weird for a weirdo.”

His burger was only half-finished; normally he would be almost finished his second.

“Hajime-chan?”

He swallowed. She’d been calling him with that honorific attached since forever, so he should be used to it, right? Never mind the fact that her voice sounded cuter, younger, nothing like her usual tone, which was to scold him for doing something stupid. Or the soft, caring gaze as she turned concerned. Or-

“Miyuki...”

“Yes?”

“We’re friends, right?”

“Of course.” Her expression turned into one of puzzlement. “Hajime-chan, are you really all right? Your face looks rather flushed-”

“So you won’t get mad at me, right?”

“...It really depends on what you do,” she replied dryly, remembering all too well the times things fell out of her favour.

He lapsed into a brooding silence that made her a little uncomfortable. When Kindaichi fell into such a contemplative (uncooperative) mood it was most probably due to a case he was working on - which, to the best of her knowledge, none had been presented to him recently. She most definitely hadn’t heard anything from Kenmochi-san...

He finally looked up; she’d just finished her drink.

“I forgot my wallet, Miyuki.”

- Owari -
Authoress’ Notes: I’m not sure how Miyuki refers to Kenmochi (I know Kindaichi calls him Kenmochi-ossan), so he gets the -san honorific. I had to watch some episodes to remember what they called each other, haha...fail.

Anyway, apologies if this isn’t what you had in mind, Chey. ;.;
