I was hoping my entries would get progressively better and better, but I keep waiting until the end of the night to do them and I usually can't even scrape anything together for even a fake entry ( Read more... )

I actually have a point to make about your "write a post a day" thing and I know why your entries aren't getting any better. Just like you said you wait until the end of the night to throw something together. This is the problem, you're forcing yourself to write and that's not going to make you a better writer. You used BigMex as an example of someone who writes every weekday well the thing is he plans his blogs out. I know he sometimes has topics lined up for a week and he plans out what he's going to put in there. When I did that 5 part one on "Why Video Game Movies Suck" on 1up a while back I had to plan it out and break it into chunks etc.

Throwing something up at the last minute isn't going to improve your writing any because you're not thinking of writing, you're just trying to fill the space. So you need to pick a topic/idea, research it and then write. Slice of life writing is great if something happens every day and you sit down in advance and actually think out what you're going to write. Writing quick short fiction requires the same attitude. Like your Kim-il Jong story had some thought to it. I personally didn't enjoy it because there's suspension of belief and Bush level separation from reality. But the fact is you put some thought into the idea and story in order to write it.

This is why I don't blog as often, I don't have that much to say because if something interesting does happen or if I do get a good idea, I think it out before writing. The only exception is if I do little quick news posts that are like 1 or 2 lines. So I think it's time to approach your writing differently in order to improve it.

I know the reason is because I wait, but I don't really want to do video game/anime stuff for LJ because I don't want to bore a bunch of people or post a whole ton of pictures when I do it. I know Noe plans his stuff out everyday, but I was never considering writing to my livejournal on that kind of level.

If anything, I was only writing just to get me going to either have ideas for other stuff I want to work on or put little bits out there for initial comments/reactions.
