01. Dream: Wartime
My dream Saturday night/Sunday morning had three parts. The setting took place in the middle of a war, at an American camp, but there were a bunch of Middle Eastern prisoners of war.
Wartime: Part one: Photoshop
Almost all of the PoW were female, however-- the males were generally killed on sight. Instead of being kept in holding cells or anything, though, the girls were allowed to wander at their leisure-- I'm assuming they had some way of keeping them from actually escaping the camp. Unsurprisingly, most of the women opted to stay huddled together in family/friend groups rather than exercising their pseudo-freedom. Some of the women and girls were rounded up at random, taken against a wall, and shot as a group. There were cameras around and everything, so I assume it was for some political purpose that they were showing this shooting. There was some unethical stuff happening, like intimidating the women and some rape, but not as much as one would expect. Or maybe my dream was censoring it, although that seems unlike my head.
Anyway, other than the obvious brutality of shooting a bunch of innocent people to death, there was something particularly shocking about what happened... I just can't remember what it was. This is when I first actually became a presence in the dream-- I asked the man who ran the camp if he wanted me to photoshop some of the shots to make them less incriminating. (Which I wouldn't do-- it's dishonest, concealing military brutality. x_X) He was like, "Sure, that's a good idea."
Wartime: Part two: A... love story?
My brain skipped past that to zone in on a military guy who was walking by. He was young, as far as soldiers go-- I think my brain said he was 19-- and he passed by a group of women before pausing. One of the girls had caught his eye, and it was love at first sight.
The thing is... the girl was eight.
Okay, she didn't look eight. She looked like she was 14, and even in my dream, I acknowledged that. The way she looked and acted, her level of maturity and intellectual understanding-- there was no way she was eight by reality's standards. But in the dream, she was eight.
He didn't just pick her up and run off and rape her or anything, though. He was totally head-over-heels for her, yes, but he didn't want to hurt her-- he intended for them to both live past the war, and marry her, if she was willing. Well, he certainly didn't have to worry on that count--! She was totally swept off her feet by him.
Early on in their courtship process, they'd just walk around together. She'd walk a half-step behind him, and she'd never speak-- she'd just listen to him chatting to her, respond in nods or shaking her head. My original instinct was that she didn't speak English, but since she was answering his questions like that, I assume she understood some. Maybe she just couldn't vocalize at all.
The last scene with them was him taking her to a Jeep, and... well, my dream skipped past any kind of visualization. It just acknowledged that they disappeared into the truck, and the windows soon fogged up. I think even in my dreams, I get bored with sex. XD At least between characters I don't give a crap about-- I have dreamt smut between Harry and Draco once, years ago, although it was in passing-- I walked by them on a staircase. ^_^;
I'm pretty sure this dream was influenced by a chat with the new boss on Friday. He has a guy friend who's half-Japanese, and the guy friend's parents met at a Japanese internment camp. o_o;
Wartime: Part three: A birthday party
After that closing scene, my brain moved away from the war camp to the home of Brisbane LacSeul and Lear Chauncey, RP characters of Jen's and mine. It was Lear's birthday, and Brisbane was throwing him a birthday party, and Lear was friends with most of the war camp, so they were the guests. There were both military men and prisoner women there. O_o; It was eerie, because throughout the entire dream, the guys would be young, laughing, hanging out, relaxed, but with a nervous tension as they prepared to be sent off for battle at any time. The prisoner women, in contrast, were always quiet, withdrawn and nervous... even as they walked around this party, eating and drinking. O_o; They never spoke, they were always huddled up in their chadors, they huddled together in groups with other women, they'd instinctively freeze up or lean away if any groups of men walked past. Yet at the same time, they didn't look scared or anything.
The other weird thing was that this party was happening at all. Brisbane would *never* condone it. He's extremely asocial by choice. Yeah, a lot of crap happened in his life, but it wasn't really because of all that that he's asocial-- he has a handful of people he talks to, but he's just not remotely an extroverted individual. Socializing is the least interesting thing in the world to him.
Lear, on the other hand, does have friends and enjoy spending time at parties and such. Still, Brisbane is not the charitable sort who would give up the privacy and solitude of his own home to let a bunch of strangers come over and have fun for Lear's birthday. (Plus, Brisbane and Lear don't even live together yet.)
The only thing that happened in this part of the dream was Lear coming home, finding a surprise birthday party going for him, and happily going over to Brisbane and giving him a kiss. That's all. I woke up.
02. Dream: Gundam Wing... again
This was my dream from last night, Sunday night/Monday morning.
This dream was pretty short-- just a drabble, really. It started with the five Gundam pilots underground, in a sort of warehouse basement. They'd just finished a battle, and the enemies had all been cleared out, and they were just resting before gathering up their stuff and returning to the real world.
I stepped away from the dream a moment to look at my bookshelf, and I pulled out some character books that I didn't realize I had, which made me really happy. Each one was blue, and each had the name of its respective Gundam pilot inside, so I pulled out Heero and Duo, then Quatre, and was flipping through their contents. Each would have a chunk devoted to the chara at the begining, all in Japanese, and then the rest of the books were identical-- lighter profiles and information on everyone else in the series, including the other pilots. The cool thing that I focused on was the character sketches-- the books all had the same character sketches. Each of the pilots had one and a half pages (front, back, front) of sketches-- full-body, shoulders and head, and then miscellaneous sketches.
Duo's miscellaneous sketches were so cute... XD They showed him with his hair down, and a few of the pictures were of him as a child. In the pictures with his hair down, I remember thinking, "Ah! I have to show this to Jen!" because it gave the length of his hair (unrealistically, but...). With his hair out of its braid, it was straight and fluffy, and went to the back of his knees. When braided, however, the very end reached just the ends of his arse, so he lost like, a foot of hair when he had it braided. O_o Then there were a couple of pics of him looking embarrassed/exasperated with his hair in pigtails. In the pictures of him as a kid, his hair was pulled back in a high ponytail, but it was held in a big, floppy bow. XD My dream likes to girlify Duo. There was one sketch where a slightly older Duo-- maybe around 12?-- had his hair in the bow/ponytail again, and he looked embarrassed, and a chibi-Heero was snickering at him.
ANYWAY. I finished looking at the sketches, and turned my attention as an invisible observer back to the pilots. They were... cooking. o_o; They were frying up some chicken and talking about the battle, relaxing. Quatre and Heero were cooking, and Quatre would participate in chitchat while Heero remained his stoic self. Quatre fed Duo first, giving him a large helping of generic greasy chicken. Heero made Quatre's next, and he got a moderate helping of lightly browned chicken, not too greasy, not too much, not raw but not overcooked. I guess the "perfect" chicken. Then Heero made Trowa's, and I can't for the life of me remember what kind of chicken it was, except that it was in longer, thinner strips than the others. Heero made Wufei's next, and it was a surprisingly small helping, which someone-- I think Quatre-- commented on. Wufei smirked, and Duo laughed and said Wufei already got his filling of slaughter.
So apparently, Wufei had this big thing for massacres. He agreed with Duo's assessment, and everybody just kind of smiled and understood, accepting the words at face value. Quatre made Trowa's last, and Duo asked why Heero was last. Wufei answered this time, saying Heero ate his chicken so spicy, he couldn't be any earlier because it would spice up the frying pan too much for anybody else to handle. (*cough* Um... this is how I make chicken at home. Or beef steaks. I always make Jen's first because mine gets drowned in cajun seasoning. XD) Quatre served Heero his helping, and Duo almost fell over sitting next to him just from how spicy it smelled. He made some kind of joke that I can't recall.
I looked around then and noticed that Heero and Duo were sitting quite close, a little apart from the group-- mostly because Heero had been sitting closer to Duo than anybody else, and Duo kept turning toward him, leaning toward him, etc. I surveyed the other three and observed that Quatre was happily sitting off by himself, finishing his chicken, then cleaning up the frying pan and gathering stuff together. Wufei and Trowa were sitting kind of side by side, neither speaking but both seeming a little nervous, as if they wanted to speak but couldn't think where to start or how to bring up conversation with one another. It was kind of adorably awkward. Even if I still don't care for the pairing.
I tuned back into Heero and Duo, and Duo had gotten Heero to chat a bit. Duo asked Heero if he was dating Relena, and what he thought of girls in general. Heero hesitated, then honestly replied that he and Relena were just friends-- that because of their roles and interactions, they'd considered dating, but it took one kiss for Heero to realize that he wasn't comfortable with her like that-- he saw her like a surrogate sister or friend, but he'd spent his entire life with males, and didn't know what to do about females. He asked why Duo had asked, and Duo laughed and nervously looked away, then went back to eating his chicken before he answered. He said that he was in the same boat-- the only people he'd grown up around who were his age were always male, and the only real female influence he'd had was a maternal figure, Sister Helen. He said that he'd thought about dating Hilde before, but he could only see her as someone he needed to protect, not date, and it felt wrong to try to think of her as anything else, and they seemed content to be like siblings. He commented that he felt a lot more comfortable around guys, and figured the war had a lot to do with it-- war having a very masculine sort of feel, and being so enmeshed in their lives, they were surrounded by images of masculinity so femininity only fit in as an ideal, an image of purity-- either the Innocent, or the Damsel in Distress.
Heero grunted in acknowledgment and continued to eat.
Duo kept chattering, now running on Anxious, and saying that them wartime-guys needed to stick together for companionship because they could understand each other, and relax with each other. Heero made a comment on never relaxing, that it just led to letting down one's defenses, and he'd have time to relax if he survived the war. Duo pointed out that Heero was always tense, and he needed to let out tension sometime, it had to be bad for his body to always be so wired.
I don't remember their next few lines of conversation, but it ended up Duo finally getting the nerve to lean in and give Heero a quick kiss, expecting to get shoved back or punched. He was tense, prepared to bolt if it seemed like Heero was going to kill him, but Heero was just like, "...", completely unsure of what just happened or what to do about it.
Then my brain skipped to them gathering stuff together-- mostly pots and pans, some old blankets, things like that-- and going back toward the surface. Quatre was running ahead, making plans to have them stay at his place for a while since most of them didn't know where to go next as there was no immediate mission. Behind him followed Trow and Wufei, silently walking more or less side-by-side, as ever staying near each other without really saying or doing anything interactive. And behind them all came Heero and Duo, walking definitely together, Duo beaming and occasionally leaning in a bit against Heero's arm every few steps. Heero didn't say or do anything, but he didn't push Duo away either, and they marched on in companionable silence.
So yeah. Yaaay for Heero and Duo! And my subconsciously apparently reaaaaally wants to hook up Trowa and Wufei, even though the last Wufei was very mellow and meditative and this one was kind of bloodthirsty. -_- Why?!
