Last night I went home to Charlotte with Sarah and Sylvia to see Green Day and My Chemical Romance. We met up with my brother Erik, and my cousins Gary and Chris. MCR was pretty good. I am definitely not as familiar with their music as with Green Day's, but they were still a pretty good show. They were pretty funny and it was an entertaining, but seriously short, set. I'll definitely listen to them more.
Then there was a life-size pink, drunken bunny that made the wait between MCR and Green Day pretty much hilarious. I took a picture, so hopefully it'll come out.
But Green Day. Such an amazing show. I had never seen them before, so I didn't know to expect explosions and fire and everything. They started out playing three straight songs from American Idiot, and I had heard that they might do that with this tour- play American Idiot straight through- but then they ended up switching things up and playing songs from other records. They ended up also calling up three people from the audience to play the drums, bass, and guitar for a song. Billie Joe called up this one kid, Austin, who was 16 and had been playing for 4 years. The kid was so crazy. He hugged him and Billie Joe grabbed his butt and kissed him. Then the kid asked to stay on and play all of the songs because he knew them all and then Billie Joe just gave him his guitar for being so crazy. It was so fun watching this! For their final song they played "Minority" which got everyone jumping around even more than before. But they came back!!! And played three more songs. Billie Joe closed out the show by himself playing "Good Riddance" which was such a perfect way to end.
It was my Chris's first concert, and I definitely think he got a good one!
We ended up making it back to Charleston by 2:15.
