You or someone you know may already be a winner! Canadian citizen!
This past Friday, the Canadian government restored Canadian citizenship to thousands of people who lost Canadian citizenship when they became citizens of foreign countries up through the 1960's. Until that time, nationality worldwide laws disfavored dual-citizenship and had multiple provisions for automatic loss of citizenship. For example, up until the 60's, Canadian women who married American men in the U.S. automatically lost their citizenship and became Americans.
The act also extends Canadian citizenship to the, potentially unsuspecting, children of once-and-future Canadians who were involuntarily denationalized.
Of course, the high point of all this is the ridiculous PSA the Canadian government produced on the subject.
