I watched Memoirs of a Geisha yesterday. *fangirl squeel* That is such a good movie. I loved it!! Zhange Ziyi is an amazing actress, and she is sooo pretty too!!! XD

"Memoirs" was a satisfying movie, but it disappointed me. I wish they'd just spoken in Japanese and subtitled the thing. I expected it to be better. The girl who plays young Sayuri (forget her name before she got "Sayuri" xP) is really pretty, though ^__^

And that would be even weirder than Chinese actors trying to play Japanese characters...

But then ignorant people hailing from the USA like me wouldn't be able to pick out their Chinese accent ^___^ And it'd all be good. xP

Or they could have just gotten *gasp* actual Japanese actors. I know, scary thought :P

They COULD have gotten actual Japanese actors. Probably the only reason why they didn't is because a) they're stupid and b) the ever annoying but oh so popular Zhange Ziyi, who plays the same annoying character in every role wouldn't be in it.

Sorry, the only role I actually enjoyed her in was in Hero. ^^;;;

Memoirs of a Geisha caused this HUGE ruckus in Japan and China, simply for Chinese actors playing Japanese characters... I don't think they'd go as far to make Chinese actors SPEAK Japanese...

You couldn't notice their Chinese accents as they spoke in English??

I think Zhang Ziyi didn't really fit the part of Sayuri. I'm sure there's at least 5 Japanese actresses out there better for the job. They probably hired her because she's popular and pretty, tossing all Asian history to the dumpsters -_-;; Never watched Hero ... so haven't gotten the chance to enjoy her anywhere =X No offense.

"Memoirs" was a huge upset for China because of the oh-so-beautiful relationship between China and Japan. Apparently a Korean actress was offered the role first, but she turned it down because she knew her country would go into ballistics if she played a Japanese person in a movie; unfortunately, Zhang Ziyi didn't have such great foresight. *bam*

Well ... for people like Pumpkin, the English was really good. Both of the people who played Sayuri (young & old) had thick accents. But I'd still prefer it subbed. Not dubbed, though. Definitely not dubbed >_>''

Her role in hero was really minimal... and she still played the same kind of character... but she wasn't in it nearly as much. She was just like, a servant girl who the hot guy gets to have a fling with to make his girlfriend jealous...

Or something.

I dunno. I wanna watch Hero again, just for the hot guy ^^;;;; *can be shallow like that ^^;;*
