Two race-related comic book links
Something that's been on my tabs for a while:
- Sequential Romance posted scans of a story from a romance comic that, amazingly, actually involved an interracial relationship. Sort of. It 's kind of open ended. But in the context of the time, it's pretty progressive and interesting for purely historical reasons.
- Meanwhile, Out of This World blog posted scans of a comic book that dealt with segregation. And it was a Golden Age story, too. Published in freaking 1945. I am kind of amazed. Not that this was the only time Golden Age comic books ever commented on racism, but it happened so rarely that, like I said, it's remarkable. The fact that it portrayed segregation is something that should be abolished is even more remarkable. I am amazed this comic book isn't better known, because that's a pretty big historical milestone as far as the medium goes.
