Oh my God,
they killed scans_daily. Those bastards.
P.S. Rumor has it that "they" was Peter David, who sent a violation of copyright notice to LJ Abuse, but I am not going to believe this until someone offers up proof.
ETA (28.02.2009): And it turned out that the truth was
a bit more complicated than the rumors would suggest (short version - his actions may have been a catalyst for a chain of events that caused scans_daily's shutdown, but he didn't pull the proverbial trigger). More on the incident
here.
The sad thing is that PAD is partially right - scans_daily was a TOSing waiting to happen, especially since the enforcement of the "thou shall not post more pages then allowed under fair use" has been very sporadic at best. And the most recent round of megaposts and trolling surely didn't help.
On my part, I have to point out that, as a scans_daily member, I only posted public domain comics. I wish I could say that it was out of concern for the law, but the truth of the matter is that I never got around to it. And there is something to be said about knowing that you can post as much as you won't without incurring the wraith of mods.
For now, scans_daily has reorganized as
noscans_daily. They are currently looking for a new blogging network that would allow scans_daily to return to full capacity... or as close to full capacity as it can get.
