I've mentioned in
an earlier post that the schedule for the
Pere Marquette train (which
connects Michigan cities along the lake) is pretty inconvenient if you're trying take it from Chicago. It leaves Chicago in the evening and doesn't come back until next morning. Unless you fancy exploring cities at night, it's not a good way to explore the cities along the east shore of Lake Michigan.
But on the Thanksgiving weekend, Michigan Department of Transportation adds extra trains to accommodate traffic. Usually, it only adds them to the Wolverine route. But this year,
it also added them to Pere Marquette route, so that there are three trains running in each direction (instead of the usual one). And under that modified schedule, if I wanted to explore St. Joseph/Benton Harbor twin cities (something I actually wanted to do for years), I could take the train that leaves Chicago at 10:00 AM (CST) and arrives at St. Joseph at 12:43 PM (EST). There's a train that would leave for Chicago at 4:28 PM (EST), arriving back at the Windy City at 5:22 PM (CST).
That would've given me about 3.5 hours to explore - not as much as I would ideally like, but still way more than I would normally be able to explore.
Under ordinary circumstances, I would totally take advantage of the schedule and go over there on Saturday or Sunday. But I got chemo treatment tomorrow, so... no exploring this weekend.
Hopefully, next year, MDOT would do something similar. Hopefully.
But for now, it's just one more reason to say - fuck cancer.
