This weekend, I took the Van Galder bus to see
annanov in Madison, Wisconsin. Maybe it's because I took an extended Amtrak trip
only a week earlier, but as I was coming back to Chicago, I had a thought. When it comes to inter-city transit, Amtrak has spoiled me.
I mean, sure, it can be late. Drastically late, as I found out the hard way during my most recent outing. But at least there, the power outlets will actually work. Sure, most Amtrak don't have wi-fi, but the ones that dol have a decent, consistent wi-fi rather weak signal that either flickers in and out (mostly out) or doesn't work at all. And while Amtrak trains can be bumpy, I could read, sketch and work on the computer without ever feeling seasick.
On Amtrak, you can work at an actual, solid table in a lounge car. You can buy a snack and a cup of tea in a lounge car. Heck, on Amtrak, you can walk around, stretch your legs a bit.
The Van Galder trip wasn't all bad (the seats were comfy), but after riding Amtrak for a decent chunk of last week, I honestly feel a bit let down.
