I just finished watching the 2005 remake of King Kong. I've heard a lot of people rip on it. I don't see why. It is definately better than the 1976 version. The only scene I didn't care for was when Kong was playing on a frozen pond. It was out of place and threw off the pacing.
I think it was a very true to the original. Honestly, I think that if the director, Merian C. Cooper, were alive today it might have turned out mostly the same way. Cooper was documentary maker. He refused to use a man in a gorilla suit; which would have been the most logical outcome back in 1933. His imagination outpaced the technology of the time. When he discovered RKO work with stop motion animation he hit the ground running and didn't look back. In fact if you watch the original you will see how Kong grew larger as the film progressed.
