New York (AP) -- Actor Peter Boyle, who played the monster in "Young Frankenstein" and the father in "Everybody Loves Raymond" has died.
He was 71. His publicist says he died last night in a New York City hospital. He'd been battling heart disease and Multiple Myeloma.
Mel brooks fans will remember him as the tap-dancing monster created by gene wilder in "Young Frankenstein." more recently, Boyle and actress Doris Roberts played Ray Romano's parents in "Everybody Loves Raymond."
Boyle first became known for playing hard-bitten, angry types, including a hippie-hating murderous bigot in the 1970 movie "Joe." but he eventually showed he could play both drama and comedy, even hosting "Saturday Night Live" once.
Boyle is currently seen as Father Time in "The Santa Clause 3."
