OMG YES! And supposedly her "chemistry" with James Murray also put the kibosh on where they were going with Abby/Stephen. I hated Helen and frankly, a promising storyline concept was dragged out way too long.

Seriously, that's the reason the Stephen/Abby thing vanished into thin air? I actually kinda liked the idea of them.

It vanished into thin air because TPTB felt that Hannah/Andrew had more chemistry together, plus they started dating IRL, and that James/Julie had more chemistry so they dropped Stephen/Abby and re-kindled Stephen/Helen. And I think even wrote in adjust to write in the Stephen/Helen affair at the end of series 1.

Wow. I think I'm the only person who wasn't feeling the Abby/Connor 'ship. I honestly only went with it in seasons four and five because it was obvious they were never breaking them up. The Stephen/Helen affair retcon pretty much destroyed Stephen's character for me. I never thought he'd do something like that, esp. to Nick. Then the dumb way he behaved which ultimately got him killed. Argh. These writers. And they're discussing a sixth season! I wish they'd leave it be. The last season ended great for me, all things considered.

I've never shipped Abby/Connor. I got into the fandom later, but because of art I did for big bangs, I was a Abby/Becker gal going into the show and also fell in love with the potential of Abby/Stephen.

My first ever fic for the series was a story where Becker and Abby were flirting, but she is hesitating going into the relationship because she and Stephen were secretly married and she felt she was betraying his memory.

I actually ship Jess/Connor.

I guess because abby/connor (the actors) were an item in real life they thought it would be a good idea. But like you, the whole Stephen/Helen thing made no sense at all! I really really hated what they did to his character. I actually haven't watched the fifth season - is it worth while?

Once I dealt with the changes, I really enjoyed series 4 and series 5.

So they decided Helen had more chemistry with Stephen then Abby...WTF..I also wondered about that. That show had such promise and they just couldn't decide on one through story line that made sense!

Yep. And because of Hannah and Andrew's RL relationship that blossomed, they felt Connor and Abby were the better fit as well. Which I completely disagree with

I did think that Andrew and Hannah had chemistry but not their characters as a couple. I agree with Donna that Abby and Stephen would have made a more interesting couple.

I think in the end they tried too hard to focus on the romance instead of people just having friendships and working really well together.

It also suffered from some of the worst cast rotation I've ever seen on a show. They just kept replacing every one. That was really frustrating

They worked better as friends, imo, then as a romantic couple. Abby and Stephen just had *something* between them. Then of course, I thought the same about Becker and Abby- especially during the Dracorex episode where they were working side by side
