THE NEW TV SEASON IS HERE!! THE NEW TV SEASON IS HERE!!
The new TV season has officially started and the TV addict in me is so happy that all my shows are returning along with some very interesting new ones.
So let's get started and break down Monday. I am missing 'Big Bang Theory' on this night and hope the move to Thursdays was a smart choice on CBS's part, but when have networks ever done the smart thing.
All thoughts are under cuts in case anything could be considered spoilers
Chuck
This show has had its ups and downs. I'm not that interested in the Sarah/Chuck romance but now that the 'will they or won't they' stuff is settled I'm looking forward to this season. Linda Hamilton as Chuck's mom is inspired casting and in her few minutes she kicked serious ass.
I missed Awesome, but hopefully he and Ellie won't be missing from too many episodes. I also really really hope that the 'keep Ellie in the dark about the spy stuff' is not going to reappear even though it seemed like the episode ended with Chuck keeping more secrets from her. I hated that she was the last to know and don't want a repeat of that stupidity.
The new Buy More is awesome and I think it's a good move to make the General more present in the episodes instead of always on the monitor. I also loved the cameo by Harry Dean Stanton as the repo man. Those kinds of in-jokes are one of the things I really enjoy about Chuck.
Next week it looks like Morgan may be dating Casey's daughter! I love this idea and can't wait.
Lone Star
When I was at the PWFC in San Antonio last May one of the guests was Mark Deklin and I got to talk to him quite a bit (and dance with him). He was just the nicest sweetest guy! So being a good fan girl, I watched the first episode of his new show, Lone Star. Mark plays the asshole brother-in-law to the main character, Bob. I thought it was actually pretty good and I really enjoyed the pilot. It will be interesting to see how Bob manages to juggle two lives. It's really a well cast show and I think it has potential.
Plus, I understand it films in Houston so I am looking forward to seeing if I recognize any locations.
Hawaii 5-0
I used to have the biggest crush on James MacArthur (the original Danno) when I was 12. So this was a must watch for me and the new version won me over. Scott Cann, was terrific in the Ocean's movies and he brings that kind of snarky banter to the role of Danno. He is easily the best part of the pilot. Scott and Alex have a great chemistry and this may be the show that Alex can finally take into season two. Against Scott, he didn't seem as solid and I was a tiny bit disappointed in his McGarrett (maybe I just wish he was still playing a Vampire). Overall, the pilot was a bit contrived, but they had to assemble the team so I get that they had a lot of ground to cover in one hour. Daniel Dae Kim and Grace Park seemed a bit like after thoughts so hopefully their characters will have more to do in future episodes.
They've also set up a conspiracy story line about police corruption that seems like it will be the arc for the season. Again the pilot was ok in parts but there's a lot of potential, so I will be giving it a couple of more episodes.
Castle
I love Castle because he is just so ruggedly handsome! I am a bit of a Castle/Beckett shipper so I was happy to see Kate a bit angry and disappointed with Castle's lack of communication. Maybe even beginning to see how much she really does like having him around, not that she would ever admit it! I loved Ryan and Esposito being all girly about Castle - being hurt he didn't call them either. Those guys are the best B team on TV right now and I would love to see an episode that focused on them.
As always the home life parallels the work life without ever seeming too forced (ok sometimes it does). I look forward to the Castle, Martha, Alexis moments in every show.
The story was typical Castle, but I don't watch that show for the mystery. I watch it for the characters and I love this cast. And that moment when Castle and Beckett finish each others thoughts is always fun. It was too cute that Esposito called her on throwing the bet to keep Castle around.
My only complaint is the shoes that Beckett wears. Stiletto "f-me" pumps are just wrong for a Detective. I'd like to see her run in those. I realize that nothing about this show is realistic, but it's just silly to have her wear those shoes.
I haven't had a chance to watch "The Event" though it is on my DVR. The only other show I caught was 'How I Met Your Mother'. The show continues to be funny and enjoyable, and I've heard rumors we may get to see the mother this season *fingers crossed* because it's about time.
So that's my Monday Night. What are you watching?
Tonight is the return of NCIS and Glee!!
